Airlocking Thread

Nothing fancy in my situation, I'm mostly f2p, though I have a monthly "card' running most of the time, just not much dil right now after buying my fourth shuttle, and I won't be spending a ton on packs. I'm still finishing regular and weekend cadet challenges, haven't yet done impressively with the gauntlet. I still have plenty of mission to finish, especially rare rewards at elite and epic. Who would you prioritize leveling? Should some be immortalized? I'm still using my high-level cadets for the challenges. As you'll see I have lots of level 1 or not much higher 4*s especially, some 3*s. Some I expect are worth keeping, but some shouldn't be worth keeping even if they are x/4*, no?

I'm at 153/150 slots right now, so who should I send to clean off the space barnacles?

    I keep 4*s if at all possible Definitely keep mirror phlox. I would use voyages to immortalize all your fully fused characters and cryo as needed. Or if there is someone you don’t like then make them walk the plank.

    I'm in a similar boat, though with 110 slots. I spent all morning looking up stats.

    Basically, you need a decent crew for voyages and shuttles. Say at least 8 of the best at level 100. That is 2 for voyages and 6 for shuttles of each skill.

    I'd go through your 2 stars, turf who aren't necessary, and leave yourself at least 5 empty slots for new crew and Tuvix.

    Archer, Rom, Glinn Damar, Nog, Crusher (Wesley), Scotty, Kirk and Bones need to find another starship. Jake Sisko can join them. Just my two pennorth.

    You have a lot of superfluous 2* and 3*s - I would work on vaulting a few 2*s (as they are easier to level) and airlocking some 3*s unless they are female and/or alien.

    You should post this kind of question in Ready Room ... get more, and faster, response ...

    Safe to Ditch
    - I have to say that all your 2*s under level 30/40 are safe to ditch, no matter what the fuse level and no matter who they are.
    With Voyages 1*s and 2*s are not an issue anymore if you want to collect them.

    - Ditch CMO "Bones" McCoy ... not needed anymore, if you have him at 100 then cryo asap.

    - Your 3*s are a bit of a mess ... I would be open to air locking any 1/3 you currently have if you need space (after taking care of the above two points).

    Immediate Action Points & Tips
    Here are a couple of tips to organise your crew a bit, get some structure into it:

    - No need to airlock any 4*s at present, you have sooo many other options.

    - Concentrate on levelling one or two crew to 100 at a time, and only level fully fused crew. I mean, why have crew lounging around at lvl 99? Just spend the trainers and immortalise them, if you ever need to open up one crew slot in a rush then you can by freezing them until you have space to bring them back out (for events or key nodes etc.).
    Start with one 2* and 3* at a time. E.g. 3* Odo (cryo when at 100) and 2* A.E. Crusher (Wesley) (cryo when at 100).
    You can base your choice on crew that can be cryoed, crew for events or crew that you need for cadet challenges (I'd choose the first 2 categories) ... once you've thinned out your crew a bit (i.e. organised it a bit) then start on some of the 4*s that will boost the overall quality of your crew (e.g. 4* Sulu).
    Once you start on 4*s then you can throw in a 2* or 3* that you manage to FF and level them to 100 so that you work on the immortalising crew achievement (and get "free" dil for your effort).

    - Sniper Ezri is NOT safe to airlock!! She is one of the 4 skeleton crew to run for 3* Advanced Cadet Missions (the others being Torres, Saavik and L. Troi) ... if you need space you can cryo/airlock all but those 4 and still run all missions with a decent chance of success.

    Some of the suggestions so far have been way too aggressive, in my opinion. You don't need to start airlocking 3* crew willy-nilly. You can open up quite a few spots just by getting rid of cadets that you don't need. Yes, you can pare down your crew a lot more than this, but there's no need to do so at this point. If you start running into the same problem again after several more weeks, then you can start thinking about spacing some of your rare crew.

    Here are my suggestions on which of those cadets to keep for the weekly cadet missions, and which to dismiss (but of course, if you like any of the ones I suggest tossing, then there's no need to space all of them, as you can work on leveling and then vaulting them):

    Also, RaraRacing's points about leveling a couple of crew at a time (and then sending to cryostasis the ones you aren't needing on a regular basis) are suggestions to take to heart.

    You don't necessarily need to toss any 3* crew right now, but if you do get the urge, I'd hang on to your 3/3's and of the 1/3's in your roster, Private Money is definitely worth keeping and eventually getting fully fused.

    Also, I agree that this post really should have been in the Ready Room sub-forum rather than The Bridge, but too late to do anything about that now, so it is what it is. ;-)

    I second the emotion on immortalizing who you can as a priority before chucking. Hell, with a modicum of effort, I bet you could have 10 slots free AND points towards achievements by focusing on vaulting 2 stars. Taking Wesley for example, at 83 you're almost there. He's not that hard to finish and freeze.

    You have a lot of 2/2s that are close, so you probably don't have to emergency-airlock anybody just yet.

    General rules of thumb (although other people have done more extensive analysis than I):

    Cadets: female/federation/alien crew are the best. Except for Money, I'd cut anybody who only has one skill or don't fit any of those criteria. Except for crew that are close to immortalizing of course; you can just freeze those.

    Do check traits and what missions those unlock (wiki).

    4*: I'd keep them all, honestly. There are useless 4* crew, but you'll have slots soon. If you luck into a 4/4, even bad ones will probably help you.

    You're absolutely correct ... but I'm talking about if the OP should "toss" a crew member or not ... the OP could level Ezri to 100 and cryo ... once they've obtained all the critical rewards and if they are ever in dire need of crew space Ezri (with the other 3 mentioned) can pass almost all missions on Sat./Sun. (you don't need to crit to get a standard reward) ... the same goes for Seska, Melora and Sito, the 3 skeleton 2* crew that can pass the most cadet missions during the week ... I ran that trio for a month or two while I was levelling and immortalising other (non-essential) crew, then when I finally had space I brought back the other 2*s to crit the final nodes I still had open and am now running the optimal 2* crew (8 - minus Kira, never use her because I always seem to run Elite on Thursday) because I've opened up a ton of crew slots.

    That's kinda the nice thing about levelling and immortalising crew instead of air locking those you deem surplus, you can always bring them back.
    Personally, I would (and did) put the effort into immortalising all my FF crew, starting with the 2* and 3*s like I mentioned before.

    On a side note: I cannot imagine how easy it is to level 2* (and maybe 3*) crew now with Voyages, the extra influx of crew and chrons is massive compared to say, 4 months ago. Therefore, in my opinion there's currently no need to airlock any FF crew.

    Here's my detailed view of your 3* crew.

    Where I've put event crew, I mean associated crew, 3*s can come in handy for Faction events. I haven't included all crew (e.g. Hugh) but as a general overview.

    Basically, keep your FF crew and level those using a system you like (part of an upcoming event, like the crew member etc. etc.).

    Most 1/3s you can safely ditch, they'll come around again. That gives you 12 immediate spots.

    Final piece of advice ... should you get any portal pulls through the Gauntlet, Events, Daily log-in rewards etc., just leave them in the Time Portal for the time being ... only do a pull once you've immortalised 5-10 crew and have opened up 5-10 slots. This takes a lot of discipline, but it means that you won't have crew in overflow from those sources (they'll still be coming in in droves from Voyages) ... basically air locking 3*+ crew is a waste of resources (dil, money, time, effort etc.) that you have put into the game.

    You've gotten good advice from others- follow it. My suggestions below. For the 3 slots you need, I'd say vault Security Chief Worf, Bones McCoy, and dump a 2* (Damar or Ro).

    you don't need to dump any 4*s, although you have several who are unnecessary. Some tips, though:

    Keep Gaia Odo. Unlike Kathryn Janeway I've never seen him in the portal since he was introduced. If you've got festive Jadzia I'd be inclined to hold on to her also. She is very easy to level and she may not be in the portal for a while either.
