Discovery Season 2 Trailer

Hey DB,

You have players from outside the US; So when you pick a trailer to show, please don't pick one that's locked down to that location.

For Discovery fans outside the US, here's a trailer that worked for me: https://youtu.be/2coob7np2LA

Thank you! Had already seen the trailer, but was surprised to see it linked at all. And was then disappointed by the geolocking.

I like the trailer, looking forward to season 2.
Wikipedia says Discovery season 2 is set for January 2019, so if we keep having a Mega-event every other month, I'd expect Discovery Mega 3 in December or February.

From the uniform, I gather this takes place after the events in The Cage/Menagerie.

I'm very glad Pike left his Inhumans scowl over on ABC.
Come join the Steeler Nation Fleet!
  • I am travelling outside the US and was wondering why I couldn't see the trailer and no one posted about it in the Forum, then I used my VPN and was able to see it.
  • Thanks for posting it, it's an international game!

Hugh Culber will be back.

I'm glad Culber will be back. I didn't like that they killed him off the way they did, and I don't care how they bring him back as long as he's back. Magic spore reanimation? Voq actually killed Culber's twin brother who was covering for Hugh that day because he wanted to binge watch The Great Bolian Bake Off? It doesn't matter to me.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing Mount's Pike in this game, he looks good. Hope we get some more versions of Saru and Stamets too.

    "The power of math, people!!!"

Easily my favorite character, having never seen an episode yet.

Also, what the what are those little pod things they were flying? Finally get to see actual FIGHTER CRAFT in a Star Trek?

We might get screwed watching the trailer in Canada, but at least it's on an actual TV network here and you don't have to subscribe to a streaming service... I'll take that all day long
  • @PompeyMagnus yeah I feel that, when I was watching it was "wait... WHAT!?" and wasn't too into caring about the rest of the episode. It seemed unnecessary. Like the end of the last TNG movie or ENT finale.

Magic spore reanimation sounds like a plan. A bit more substantial than a ghost. :)

    Pike look good. Very Pikeish.

There were fighter craft used in the Dominion War.

According to the tie-in novel Desperate Hours by David Mack, the Constitution class ships got all the latest equipment from Star Fleet, along with new style uniforms.

The first deason of Discovery was set roughly a year after the events of The Cage.

Actually, NO. There were SPACESHIPS that the writers CALLED "Fighters" on DS9 during the Dominion War......

You call something a fighter, you make it operate like a fighter, its a fighter. Not sure how it doesn't meet the definition... Fighter wings of smaller craft (smaller than the defiant.) were used in the Dominion war. They were actually called "Federation Attack Fighters".

Basically I think you're disqualifying them cause they could go to warp. Kinda like throwing our the Vipers in Galactica 1980 cause they could time travel.

They are 1 to 2 person attack craft (as seen when Wesley's flying one in that Boothby TNG ep) that operate in squadrons attacking targets. They aren't exploration craft. They aren't bombers. They're meant to be quick and meant to be offensive.

Defiant is also an "escort vessel"
So we know that sometimes Starfleet will officially designated a vessel incorrectly to maintain there hippy peace and love dogma.

Peregrine Class Courier vessels used by the maquis, a terrorist organization.. I'm sure they didn't pick those to hijack and use for their cause because voyager hogged all the class 9 shuttles lol.

You know - I actually clenched at the end of Season 1 when then 1701 showed up on screen. I just wasn't ready to have TOS era people from the 60s in my late 2018 show. I knew Spock would show up the minute Sarek was introduced, and Pike is a no-brainer.

But, I had to step back and rethink things. I have my own feelings and thoughts for Trek, just the same as you the dear reader or the person next to you. Many, many, many fans have diverging opinions and feelings - which is perfectly fine for a property that spans 50 years!

I had to let go of that clenching side of me and just say "it's ok" - accept the crossover and be happy to see new Trek with familiar names - and know that those same characters can't forever be trapped in the 1960s. I want my kid to grow up and know Trek the same way my Dad introduced me to TNG in 1987. This is a vehicle to make it happen.

All of that said - this looks awesome. I know very well they cherry picked those scenes and they are likely from the same 2 eps - so lots and lots of things will be kept in the dark. But, none the less, I'm still super excited to see new trek in 2019 and have it feel new to me. Again, not all of us are going to agree on this, but sign me firmly up for all the new Disco characters DB wants to put out.

Also no matter liking or not liking it Discovery brought fresh life to the franchise. Further new series are planned for television as well. There were much worse times for us fans.

Also looking forward to the new "Short Trek" which starts in december. 10 to 15 minutes mini episodes with a focus on certain characters like Tilly or Saru. Character development came a little short in the first season, so that is a welcome idea.

I do like this idea that Spock is constantly having to be searched for.

Agreed. I had similar concerns the moment I heard that Discovery was another prequal show, which only increased when I found out how near it was set to the TOS timeline.

Once you get past the Star Trek canon and timeline inconsistency concerns, I thought the show was quite good on its own.

My preference would still be for a new Trek show set sometime well after the Dominion War and TNG movies, to introduce an entirely new ship and crew, without having to worry about canon/timeline inconsistencies, but c'est la vie.

So, 17 new Burnhams on the way?

Just as long as we get:
    Pike.
    Number 1.
    Spock.
Kirk if he makes an appearance.
Nurse Chapel if she makes an appearance.
and the bug eyed reptilian thing at the end of the trailer.

I would love it if CBS could do Number 1 and Chapel with CGI so that Majel would be in every series of Star Trek.

We'll definitely be getting new Pike and Number One (which, also, how are none of the crew from the original pilot, save Pike/Spock, part of the game yet?). Reno the Engineer seems like a sure bet as well. What I really want to see is a Stamets that reflects his actual job.

My favorite was when the Enterprise pops in on Kruge and the Klingon tactical officer says “Federation Battlecruiser”... Leave it to the Klingons to call a spade a spade...

The second the disposable, tacky licensed music kicked in, I paused the video and took a minute before watching the rest. In a nutshell, this looks pretty dreadful. Much of it seems to be a wanton appropriation of various established set pieces in TOS lore, either because they have no ideas that stand on their own, or their investors don’t want to take the risk. Disco season 1 had its ups and downs and there were some moments and characters that I genuinely enjoyed. This seems to mark a descent into cheap fan service. And just to remind you that Trek doesn’t think too hard any more, they even finished things off with a Disney Star Wars “comedic” moment set in a turbolift.

    Gee, I can’t wait.

  • The second the disposable, tacky licensed music kicked in, I paused the video and took a minute before watching the rest.

Funny enough, the proper non-US trailer (the one for Netflix not for CBS) doesn't have that music. And is much the better because of it.

The show runners did address fan concerns after the Enterprise showed up at the end of S1. They said "The show is called Discovery, not Enterprise". So I agree, Pike may only be in a couple of Episodes... and I doubt they will show very much of the Enterprise interiors at all.

Im not too crazy about it. The uniform discrepancy is distracting and of course we’ve got some crazy Spock stuff going on. I don’t like prequels, because they usually ignore the source material and screw up continuity

I just couldnt make it past episode 5 of season 1. I mean early season of all the shows were pretty rough, but something just didnt grab me on this one, like Enterprise
  • I actually think the uniforms are brilliant. If you look closely (zoom in) you see it’s actually a Discovery uniform complete with shoulder stripes and underarm torso panels just in the TOS primary colors.

Yeah, the song....ok moving on. The trailer is the first arc so it just covers the first couple of episodes. No Voq/Tyler L’Rell, Coulber etc in this arc.

Not as widely reported is the 4 short films/episodes that we will get in the fall. Four 15 minutes shorts about various characters, one who is not even on Discovery, one about Tilly, and one about Saru and his background. The shorts are suppoeded to introduce new characters too so I’m looking forward to some of them appearing in the game.

There is also a bunch of new Trek in development, which I think will address the long wait between seasons. Last season premiered in the fall, this season will premiere a year after season 1 ended. That’s a long wait.
