    1) I now need Star Trek: The Office in my life.

Yes. Michael could be a Pakled. Or a Tamarian. Or Section 31 as Agent Michael Scarn.

I agree with what others have said that Stewart wouldn’t be coming back for crap. It may not be everyone’s cup of Earl Grey (like Discovery, which I like sometimes and don’t like sometimes).

I’m excited, we had a Trek wasteland after Enterprise (which I mostly enjoyed) that was hitting its stride as it was canceled. Don’t even get me started on them killing off Trip.

Now we have Discovery which looks promising for season 2, this show with Jan-Luck Pickard and maybe a third show on the horizon. Good time to be a fan.

Maybe Discovery will "jump" to the future via the spore drive by the end of season 2. There, they meet Picard.

As a result of the meeting, the "limited run" series could focus on picard before / after the encounter and Discovery's jump would solve a LOT of continuity issues

I guess after sleeping on this, here's how I feel:

I'm the kind of Star Trek fan that likes the Universe itself. Space, the starships, the races, the exploration, the action. For me, you could put in new characters every season, as long as they're doing cool new stuff. Then there's the kind of fan that likes the characters. For them, you could practically set the show in an office building, as long as they get to see the characters they love. (Not that TNG meets "The Office" wouldn't be HILARIOUS. But you get my point.)

Hollywood is made of actors and directors. They probably feel the second way. Which is why, in Discovery, they made Burnham into Spock's sister, made Sarek a huge part of the series, and are focusing season 2 on Captain Pike. Of course, in their defense, TNG, DS9, Voyager AND Enterprise were basically "here's a new group of people in the same universe you love."

The Abrams movies were basically "here are the characters you love, but everything else is different." I personally wasn't a fan. It sure looked cool and explode-y, but it wasn't my Star Trek.

My point is, are we as fans more attached to the idea of this character, or to the universe itself? Don't say both. If given the choice between Picard in his later years, or a new show set in, say, 2406, during the era of Star Trek Online, which would you pick?

    2) Why can’t we have both? I enjoy the ST universe and the stories that can be made in it but I also have some favorite characters I wouldn’t mind seeing again. Are there people out there who wouldn’t want to see, say, a ten- or twelve-part miniseries about the Earth-Romulan war that has appearances from the Enterprise crew and Idris Elba along with Admiral Valdore and some new characters?

Hahahaha, what you're describing is Star Trek: Timelines! "Here are all the familiar faces you love, now mixed up together and thrown into new adventures!"

That’s not really a jumble from all of the series like STT...the Earth-Romulan war definitely would involve Starfleet’s most experienced crew and a major Romulan political figure. Beyond established another character from that era that I would hope could be featured in a TV format and have his backstory fleshed out a bit more as well. New characters would be more Romulans, other Starfleet ships or United Earth officials, and the like. Vaughn Armstrong and Harry Groener could make appearances as well, all while covering a pivotal moment of Earth history that other canon sources have only nibbled at by now.

And they would have another venue for Burnhams as well then. "Future wife of Riker Burnham " coming up.

Any Star Trek has to be better than no Star Trek I would think.

    Trista

Agreed...and STD doesn't count as Star Trek... I don't know WHAT it is, but its got a Star Trek label on it, and I don't like it. Seeing Jean-Luc again will be an awesome thing, and Its about time they had a new Star Trek show!

I really am trying very hard to pretend ST:D doesn't exist, I hope they don't ruin it by mentioning it.

I’m looking forward to the new Picards on here.

    Zimmer Picard
    “Where’s the nurse?” Picard
Hasn’t had his pills yet Picard.
“Bill! Bill! You remember.. bill! Used to go out with that woman with the funny accent with the fussy mother. You remember! Always changing his beard... or was it Phil? Yeah Phil!” Picard.

    Am I missing any?

Maybe it is something else completely... Retired Picard tending to his vineyard in southern France while babysitting his nephews kids and having the occasional witty conversation with the shopkeeps widow down at the village while getting some croissants and milk... xD

And then some borgs crashland into his vines and 'here we go again..'

Like “Alo’ Alo’!” only with Star Trek, lol.

@CaptainUnderpants Gee, thanks for the downer, lol.

And probably often with shameless cross promotion.

It's on All Access, so I'm out.... might even be good, but it's gonna be a while before I can even think of watching new Trek again.
Had to take a break from even watching old Trek as it just made me sad.

Next press release, Avery Brooks and Kate Mulgrew sign on and its titled "Captains of a Certain Age" licensed from TNT. Of course there would be a cameo with Bakula having a sense of Deja Vu, or is it just time travel gone wrong.

Scott Bakula is not above a little fun, even at his own expense. See also: season 12 premiere of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

Maybe even more than Picard coming back, I am excited to finally get some narrative in the Prime universe beyond Voyager. Even if the story is centered on Picard's story, the writers will have to do some world-building on what the galaxy looks like now and where the Federation/Starfleet is in relation to it, at least as it pertains to Picard. It may be limited, but I'm very excited to see the story finally continue.

Actually, I see this as a very good opportunity to unify elements from the numerous series covering the similar time period as TNG. In fact, I think there really ought to be cameo appearances by Admiral Janeway, Captains Riker of the Titan and Data of NCC-1701E (although this one is not so likely because Brent Spiner has already stated that he's, essentially, "too old for this @#%!"), and even possibly some sort of an update on the status of the Emissary himself, Sisko. Not to mention what has become of the Romulan Star Empire, if the peace brokered at the end of DS9 with the Dominion and Cardassia (which, has it recovered?) has held, and if there are further incursions/interactions with the Borg or Species 8472.

Heck, let's get cameos from all the shows' remaining characters! The TNG cast, of course, but also characters from Voyager and DS9. Let's get Worf, O'brien, The EMH, Seven of Nine, Odo, etc. etc.

Uh, no you didn't. Your thread is dated 9:45am this morning. The thread he linked was posted on August 4th at 5:16pm. Time stamps are a wonderful thing.

Besides, you posted another thread saying much the same thing at 9:42am this morning in Make It So, of all places. We get it, it's exciting news, but it's a bit much. 😬 There's also a thread in Strange New Worlds (where all of these threads should be), posted August 4th at 3:05pm.

They’ve moved my thread into Strange New Worlds and put some of the others into it as well. I put mine originally in The Bridge because that’s where it gets the most attention and I didn’t even know SNW category existed. I never scroll down this far. Sorry if this caused any confusion. Also, general discussion is often on The Bridge as well, so it seemed like the best fit at the time.

@[ISA] Big McLargeHuge You and me both.

@EddNog I’m absolutely with you as well. Bring on the cameos and guest appearances!

While I agree that a certain amount of fan service is good, you know they won't do any of this.

The people involved won't care about references to the Berman-era Trek, they will want to put their own stamp on everything. So expect lots of new races etc. If existing stuff is mentioned at all (eg. Klingons), you can bet they won't look or act anything like the fans expect them to.

And as for the people that said Stewart wouldn't do anything bad, remember he did Nemesis, and said at the time how great it was. At this point, I suspect he's just after a nice pension.

Imho Nemesis was a great movie if you add the deleted scenes. The movie was simply destroyed in the cutting room. But maybe it's just me, I even liked Star Trek 9. It was more like a double episode and less a movie but still a great storyline.

I would just be happy if they made some or all of the events of ST Online official canon. The Iconian War might be jumping the shark a little, sure, but seeing Ambassador Worf, Captain Kim, Odo, and others move on with their lives was excellent. Also...as a huge Andorian fan, seeing Captain Va’kel Shon in charge of the Enterprise-F and Captain Thelin on the U.S.S. Kirk was mega cool.

Agree 100%. I think Nemesis was even better than Generations, never mind TMP, Insurrection, or Final Frontier. It explored the nature of self, how we are defined not just by our innate abilities but by our experiences, better than any Trek other than some Mirror universe episodes and possibly The Enemy Within. Coupled with an extended look inside the Romulan Empire (especially the Remans), this makes me happily overlook some of the roughly-constructed parts of the film.

David Mack did a nice thing with Resurrected Data in his Cold Equations trilogy. He also went a little god-mode with parts of the plot but his treatment of Data was fascinating.

Well sorry to all you Americans but in Canada, I don’t have to ‘subscribe’ to anything or spend money to watch these shows their on an actual TV Chanel. Like Discovery, I just recorded it every Sunday and now I have all the episodes to watch whenever I want. Hopefully this new Picard show will be the same :) ah the benefits of living in Canada. 😁

    So.... you're pirating?

It's not free. Where I am the only way you can watch is by subscribing to Bell.

I'd love to see previews of this upcoming show with him. Looking forward to it, too. Lord knows, I enjoy my Star Trek!
HIGH RANKING, HIGHLY SEXY FLEET SEEKS HOT & ACTIVE PEOPLE FOR SOME FUN PLAY.

Have you been naughty? Playing with yourself again? Has another fleet touched you in bad ways? Don’t worry, we will train you…. Gently. Light bondage only. Bring your own handcuffs, though…. We don’t supply them.

We’re not those other guys. Here we shower often, and we treat our members like family.
We know how to whip some serious tail, yet no one is left to shiver out in the cold. If you need advice, help, strategy, tips or anything at all…. I and my officers are here to help you.

Currently, we're looking for more good people to enjoy the game with us, and we offer a TON to our members, in return. We prefer level 50 members and above. Lower level players than this will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

We use the DISCORD app for all our fleet chats (it's free). We're much better organized than many other top-tier fleets in the game, while a heck of a lot more relaxed and much more fun to be a part of. I have numerous other former fleet Admirals who joined me, and we have a world of knowledge and experience to share with you. Sure, we all love the game, and we enjoy playing it often; but we're also a fun family of kooky friends from around the world, who enjoy playing the game together. On top of playing, we also hang out often and share plenty of good laughs, an excellent supportive environment and one another's company.

It's OK if you don't play every day. You don’t have to be a daily player, but the more you play the more fun you’ll have with us. So long as you let me know ahead of time whenever you know you're going to be offline from the game for five days or more, I won't kick you for inactivity. You can send me that message on DISCORD at any time you need to; it takes only a moment. That rule helps keep our fleet as active as possible.

All Captains MUST have a name other than just “Captain” so that others may recognize you. We have no drama, but instead are a close-knit group of good people who treat each other as if we’re both friends & family.

WE’RE ALMOST ALL VERY HIGHLY ACTIVE, and help is never far whenever you might need it, at any stage of the game, nearly 24/7. Whatever your skill level, we can help you.

If you are interested in joining our fleet, please feel free to message me and I will be glad to assist you.

Free steak & Lobster available from our resident chef upon joining (alternate meal suggestions are possible), drinks available through our in-house bartender/barista/host. Please be sure to tip your wait staff. They're nuts, but they're worth it.
