Can we get new ranked rewards for events?

I’m a player that spends a decent amount of money, but not to the point where I ever finish in the top 100 for an event. Generally, I’m in the top 1000 for about 70% of events, but usually I just make sure I’m in the top 1000 so I can get the legendary, so my finishes are frequently in the 800-999 range. I go a little extra on the skirmish events, because you can get actual rewards for each battle, but otherwise I just put enough in to get in the top 1000, and try not to waste more resources (especially in galaxy events). The bonuses for everything below 15, where you would get a second legenday (but to get that high, good chance you already bought enought to get the event legendary FFFE), does not feel like much of a bonus. I have more trainers than I could ever use, a small amount of extra merits (not nearly enough to even buy a 750 character three pack) is not very helpful, and a few extra premium portals generally just feels like some honor (barely a drop in the bucket to buy something decent from the honor hall). With that being said, I have little to no incentive to try to push myself up from the 900 range to anything lower since I don’t really think I could get to the top 15 for hardly any event (unless of course I spent to already get the legendary at or near FFFE already), which just feels like DB is ignoring an obvious way to get players to spend on resources to rank higher. I’m sure I’m not alone in this sentiment, which makes it seem clear that it is time for a change to the ranked rewards. There are all kinds of different things that they could amend the ranked rewards to, so please post your ideas below since I can only speak for myself. Personally, I would like to see more ranking catagories (e.g. after the top 100, a different tier of rewards for every 100 places someone ranks), significantly more merits, citations and/or beholds, event packs and/or more premium portal pulls, and maybe even expanding the legendary past the top 1000 as it would likely incentivize newer players to be more active.

Thoughts?
Suggestions?

People have been saying this for over a year. DB thinks the rewards are fine and isn't interested in changing. Until you see people stop competing and spending, nothing will change.

What Avi said. This has been an issue with players for a long time, but DB doesn't care or agree. The supreme admiral even said in her (self selected)Q&A at us that rewards aren't even in consideration to be re-evaluated, everything is good, more players now than at launch must mean DB is already doing everything perfectly and there is no room for improvement.

Do they need to be updated? Yep. Are they the worst or close to it of any game I've ever spent any time in? Yep. Is full participation and ranking discouraged because of the structure? Yep. Do I have even the slightest amount of hope that anything will change in any foreseeable future? Hah!! no way!!
  • My take on this is that there are two distinct compensation tiers for distinctly different players: the "normies" and the "whales", with the top reserved for what amounts to high-stakes poker. Assuming this characterization is accurate, then DB has good reason to keep rewards as they are.

The response Captain_Who is referring to...
Will there be changes to the event rewards structure to give players more incentive to participate?
Participation in events is at an all time high. As such, we believe players are already highly attracted to the rewards and the events themselves. That being said, as we have a growing diversity amongst how long players have been in the game, we are looking at what we can do to make events more interesting across all levels of experience with STT.

Good thought Redjac, I like the idea of two different competitions. One that spend loot and those who don't. I think it's a little unfair I play with the "whales" since I'm on a fixed income and don't really have money to blow on games when I got a family to provide for.
For me this is an escape from the norm and relaxes me, I am competitive when I have time but should play against same type of people.
In the last shuttle event, a player had 3 mil points in the first half hour of the event. No chance of even dreaming of topping that w/o springing for DYC, which this player did(a lot) to the tune of about $600. And with DB changing rules and nerfing cards, I'm glad I don't pay much(I just buy monthly cards)
So yes, there should be 2 divisions of play, playing on the same level as others. Although I suspect the rewards would for the "normies" wouldn't be those of the "whales".
  • People have also brought up the fact that since the event participation is at an all time high (according to their own admission), the ranked rewards get progressively more difficult to attain. Like rank 1000 a year ago was a lot easier to accomplish than today and for newer players, it is even more difficult if not almost impossible to get to rank 1000. They could have the type of rewards that arena has that gives out rewards depending on how many people play the event so that it would be easier for the newer players (and players overall) to attain a certain rank. But who are we kidding, that won't happen...

Whelp, for some events, ranking 1000 is flat out impossible without either buying the rank, or expending multiple weeks of resources. Factions for example, require at least a few months of cultivated shuttle crew, more if you're not a big spender, and no less than 3 weeks of time boosts. So the longer the game goes on, the less rewarding it becomes for everybody, new and old.

I have no problem with top 1000 Faction event.

But you are right it requires bonus crew.

Never use boosters except the 9hr variety in normal shuttle runs during week

    You will need 4 shuttles.

To cut down in time at beginning. You need to do some kind of quick start. So time boosts are necessary at start. If you do not use quick start you will be stuck (not being able to leave the game) doing faction missions until you can get to a point where they return 1 1/2 to 3 hours.

Set alarms when you exit game so you can send out your next batch of shuttles when they return.

Cherry pick your missions. What you ideally want is 3 seater shuttle missions that share the same stat. Try to configure the crew so you get the best results.
Maybe two bonus crew in each shuttle if possible more in some.
Again the stat sharing is important. Boosting a stat shared by two or more bonus crew can really be the difference in making that rank 1000.

Try to have 40 rare (3*) stat boosters of each kind. This can fall short of what you actually need just substitute other rarity stat boosters based on how you are doing in event. Also time boosts could be used. But, keep in mind if ever you want to make top 25 in the future you will need about 250+ 3* or higher time boosts.

If you can do elite missions on Thursday cadet challenge.
If you can afford the dil.
Get four extra set of cadet tickets. (Two is all you will need for rank 1000)
( also sometimes I depleted my 3* stat boost or time boosts so I ran 3 xtra. Luckily faction events are not back to back)
(Four or three sets of tickets will help to rank in top 15)
Always run elite mission best that I always run is the second mission. It gives base medical lesson and wrench.
150 dil. For first two sets of extra tickets
    200 dil. For third
    250 dil. For fourth.
These x10 packs cost 50 dil. in portal. So never bother with any more than 4 extra set of cadet tickets.

You do need to get your missions stat boosted out every 3 hours when you are awake. Before you go to sleep if possible send a 3 hour mission out. These are all stat boosted by rare (3*) boosts to stat including when your awake.

When you wake send out stat 3* boosted shuttles right away. Set alarm for three hours.

Examine your ranking see if you are moving up or down when shuttles come in.
Try to determine if it is worth your boosts to keep competing or not.
Stat boosters can still be used if your falling behind but might be worth conserving for future faction event.

Also do not use boosters except 2* or less on Galaxy and only sparingly.

    Good luck

You don't actually need that many time boosts. Apart from the kickstart, I rarely use time boosts, and I've reached top 1k a few times now. I use skill boosts on all my shuttles and have an overall success rate of about 86%, which is plenty enough for ranking somewhere between 500 and 1000 (depending on the competition). Been playing for 10 months, never buy event packs, so I don't have the new crew beforehand.

Faction events have always required having a diverse crew and usually some or all bonus slots. That's a good reason to collect a lot of crew, lol.

Coming up on 2 years in game -- and that's why I've been doing well in factions. (That and not being airlock happy.)
