I honestly have no faith that this will happen.
I also predict that the bots will be modified to not be as efficient simulating humans and rule the event.
Given the inefficient design of the game’s current crew selection interface, I hoped an overhaul would have anchored the v6.00 update. In fact, both she ship interface and the ship crew selection interface are almost terminally clunky, and they aren’t compatible with the direction the game has gone in. Even simple navigation is a nightmare...there are too many ships, too many crew, and making good choices requires more info than the interfaces conveniently display.
It boggles my mind that the “working as intended” version of skirmishes was developed without acknowledgement that the selection interfaces around ships and crew are in no way optimized to support those mechanics. It makes you wonder about play testing, or if anybody gave serious thought to the user experience around playing an entire weekend of that.
The irony is that the “glitch” actually made skirmish events tenable...if this next one plays exactly as described, it’s probably going to be a mess.

I guess I wouldn't even mind this format for bonuses IF they stacked the bonus structure. So if I'm using 4 bonus crew in the proper spots then I get 4X the bonus or some such. That should be the reward for the work of having to switch out the crew. That would actually make it harder, not impossible, for the bots to keep up.
Drunken Dahar Masters is recruiting active players.
PM for details.
Unfortunately there will not be any major changes to the UI.
So crew selection will indeed still be annoying.
We know it hinders the enjoyment of this type of event, and it is on our list still as a needed improvement.
UI revamps are no small feat, and typically take longer. We wanted it sooner but that was not possible.

Since it already has some kind of filter in place (since it shows "bonus" crew) is there not a way to just modify that filter in the interim so that it would show high bonus crew first? I mean I agree that the entire UI needs redesigning, but for now just giving us a better sort would do fine

Indeed, so the costumer friendly solution would have been to leave Skirmish event bonus crew VP gameplay as it was, until you had fixed the UI.
I still don t get why you changed what was appreciated by all players and all players were on the same playing field regarding VP bonus with bonus crew.
No loss in revenue, nothing. Thx again for making this event a pain....Well done.
I appreciate the forthright reply from Shan, but I have to wonder why skirmishes were not simply left "bugged" in the meantime. I'll probably just play on a more limited basis and take the hit for not switching crew to the extent that I *do* bother. Seems a number of others feel the same way.
I *liked* skirmishes.

I don’t get it either. They know from the last Skirmish event people were frustrated with the rule changes and especially how they went back and rewrote the original blog post.
Why not just allow using one of the featured 4* crew to light up all the traits as a workaround? Like last time.
DB are actively chosing to frustrate players here.
I suspect this is coming down to players benefiting too much, in DB's view, from the essentially automatic maximum bonuses. Even if they did optimize the selection interface to minimize or eliminate the hassle (I'm not expecting this any sooner than the arrival of Godot), my best guess is they want players to have to go the extra mile by collecting (or buying) enough crew for the full bonus on every ship battle.
Players getting too much stuff is likely a sin more cardinal than players being inconvenienced, so there it is, perhaps.

I'll be honest, even if they did revamp the selection process to make it smooth as a Deltan's head, I just can't see myself crew-swapping for battle after battle after battle... I'll just jam Spock into whichever seat he fits in and take whatever points that gives me.
I'm not entirely against the idea of the new bonus system, mind you, I just feel like it puts maximum performance in a skirmish into the same bracket as pouring every last chron into a galaxy event, or paying attention to which shuttles have which missions in faction. That's okay (if the interface wasn't being an obstacle), I'm mostly a threshold-and-out player.
When they do make the changes, I hope the change is allowing us to select and set crew for each of the five battles, one single time, and it will retain those crew for each battle without having to swap them out manually.
I’ve been one of the biggest supporters of skirmish events but this new “intended” mechanic makes it almost unplayable unless you’re using a bot. I find it funny that they have tried to implement mechanisms to fight bots but then they make changes that almost make a bot required to retain sanity. One step forward, 10 steps back. I would’ve said two steps back but I let DB RNG come up with the value.

Seconded, and heck even 3rd, 4th, and 5th!
