Radical Change to Address Both Tedium and Macros in Skirmishes

It seems that issues with the Skirmishes has been pretty divisive, some people concerned that players are using an unfair advantage by using macros against TOS and others feeling like the actual structure of Skirmishes is so flawed that the use of macros is understandable, if not excusable, due to the simplistic structure and state of playerbase.

I'll go into this saying I have ZERO expectation of actually seeing this. But with all the complaining and disagreement, I figured I would add my productive commentary on this issue.

So when the arena was first introduced, I was hoping for something closer to the last Star Trek game I played seriously: Star Trek Legacy. For those of you who aren't familiar, here is a YouTube video I uploaded ten years ago of me completing a challenge among friends (https://youtu.be/45nORFMLjaQ?t=2m16s). Essentially, it was a pizzabox universe where you could pilot a ship on autopilot or manually (360 x-axis 180 y-axis), with manual firing and limited targeting options. Camera could remain fixed or rotate 360x180, so targeting was generally automatic as most ships had near 360 x-axis firing options. Basically, you spent more time at the helm than tactical. It was more complicated than this, but you get the gist.

Even though I played this game on Windows XP, it's still complicated for a fraction of a mobile game. However, there are mobile games which are seemingly simple in structure with similar gameplay. The best example of this that I've tried is X-Wing Flight. For those who haven't played it, you fly around in a Star Wars ship of choice, 360x360 with variable speed, selectable weapons, and simple seek and destroy objectives. Here are some screenshots from the Google Play Store, showing cockpit and external modes:

So yes, this would be a MAJOR overhaul to the game. Much more than I expect DB to be willing to invest. But even if you are playing an AI, I don't see how anyone could reasonably macro/autoplay this. Plus, it adds a level of actual gaming skill to the game beyond card collecting, resource farming, and timed tapping.

A boy can dream...
My 8-Point STT Strategy:

1. Voyage.
2. Have fun. If something isn't fun, don't do it.
3. Only pursue characters I care about.
4. Contribute to the fleet.
5. No more spending beyond monthly cards.
6. Have fun.
7. Voyage.
8. Have fun!

  • That would stop me from doing either. Not interested in that type of battle. Remember the game started with mobile devices, and most people still play on their phones. It eould be very hard to target using a phone, especially when you are riding public transportation.

Agreed. I play on my laptop & desktop for the better visuals with the bigger screens in HD, but more often than not I'm on the go and play using my phone. This idea sounds nice, but you would cause it so that I'd be less likely to play it since from the smaller screen there's too much difficulty to manage confortably
HIGH RANKING, HIGHLY SEXY FLEET SEEKS HOT & ACTIVE PEOPLE FOR SOME FUN PLAY.

Have you been naughty? Playing with yourself again? Has another fleet touched you in bad ways? Don’t worry, we will train you…. Gently. Light bondage only. Bring your own handcuffs, though…. We don’t supply them.

We’re not those other guys. Here we shower often, and we treat our members like family.
We know how to whip some serious tail, yet no one is left to shiver out in the cold. If you need advice, help, strategy, tips or anything at all…. I and my officers are here to help you.

Currently, we're looking for more good people to enjoy the game with us, and we offer a TON to our members, in return. We prefer level 50 members and above. Lower level players than this will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

We use the DISCORD app for all our fleet chats (it's free). We're much better organized than many other top-tier fleets in the game, while a heck of a lot more relaxed and much more fun to be a part of. I have numerous other former fleet Admirals who joined me, and we have a world of knowledge and experience to share with you. Sure, we all love the game, and we enjoy playing it often; but we're also a fun family of kooky friends from around the world, who enjoy playing the game together. On top of playing, we also hang out often and share plenty of good laughs, an excellent supportive environment and one another's company.

It's OK if you don't play every day. You don’t have to be a daily player, but the more you play the more fun you’ll have with us. So long as you let me know ahead of time whenever you know you're going to be offline from the game for five days or more, I won't kick you for inactivity. You can send me that message on DISCORD at any time you need to; it takes only a moment. That rule helps keep our fleet as active as possible.

All Captains MUST have a name other than just “Captain” so that others may recognize you. We have no drama, but instead are a close-knit group of good people who treat each other as if we’re both friends & family.

WE’RE ALMOST ALL VERY HIGHLY ACTIVE, and help is never far whenever you might need it, at any stage of the game, nearly 24/7. Whatever your skill level, we can help you.

If you are interested in joining our fleet, please feel free to message me and I will be glad to assist you.

Free steak & Lobster available from our resident chef upon joining (alternate meal suggestions are possible), drinks available through our in-house bartender/barista/host. Please be sure to tip your wait staff. They're nuts, but they're worth it.
  • As I said, this already being accomplished in Mobile games. Public transportation isn't an option for me but I could see that being an issue if you are getting lots of shakes. The Mobile games I've played this on though have not been hard to use; it might take a minute to gain skill at but once I'm use to it I can play these types of games walking around the house

  • The majority of my play time is on a bus. Lots of bumps on the freeway, as well as stop and go. I played some of those games in the past on the computer. And have tried some real time point and clock on the phone. Not easy to see the correct point and hard to hit the correct spot.
