Sudden outflow of people leaving the game?

Any other Admirals seeing a sudden outflow of players leaving the game? It seems to normally run in streaks anyway, but we had a full Fleet for quite a while. I'd say normally I might dismiss one or two inactive players a week or so, but they are usually quickly replaced. But over the last couple of weeks I lost about 10 players who went inactive and ended up dismissed, and no one has been coming in to replace them. Kind of has me worried about how the game itself is doing.

  • I have had a number of openings for a month or more, but they are slowly filling up.
  • It seems to primarily (but not exclusively) be the new players that are leaving. They come in enthusiastic, asking questions, wanting to play, and then, maybe about a week later they are no longer active.

Yeah, it's odd. For a while I was constantly full. As soon as someone would be dismissed, another person filled their slot. I was able to move my fleets joining level requirement to 30 and still stay full, but it sure isn't like that now. I even lowered the level requirement down to 10.

I wonder if DB has slowed up on it's advertising?
  • I dont know. I am leaving my level at 30. I found that when it was lower I had to dump members more often. We all started low, but it only takes a week or 2 to hit 30. one of the latest members is level 30, and it asking lost of questions. That is great. We have a number of Squadron Leaders who are very experienced so are answering his questions.l
  • I also have not experienced the usual influx of new members after dismissing inactive players this past week or so. This is the first time we've had less than 50 for longer than a day or two that I can remember.

I have heard that a new player coming in has such a hard time trying to move up. When I first joined, I thought a level 40 was so high up, like a professional or GOD level as it was even rare to see a level 50. But now, so many are 70-90 that a new player might be a little intimidated to continue? What do you think?
  • It's not that simple. Many new players create new fleets and don't join other fleets or you have a low starbase and so can't compete with the higher starbased fleets when it comes to attracting new members. But yes, many new players come and go. It's a normal thing. The big loss is the players who are lv50 or above who suddenly just quit.
  • we Get tonnes of people in our low level fleet, and not so many in our high level fleet. I don't think there is a huge outflow of players. We might see a bunch vanish once the bans for macro'ing kick in. I welcome that outflow.

I wouldn't expect it seeing how the first offense ban is apparently just 8 hours according to a screenshot in the stop macro thread. That would basically be nothing more than a warning to the offenders that they weren't as sneaky as they thought that they were. I expected permanent bans or at the very least a harsher ban than 8 hours, like a week ban or at the very least 48 hour ban for the first offense so that they actually feel the effect from their cheating by not being able to claim the starbase bonuses, do any dailies and lose significant rank in the event. Needless to say that they shouldn't receive any intel while they were banned either.

Yup, and I wonder if it wasn't an individual case by case thing-- like, banned until the event was over, and that happened to be 8h.

So.. I'm a God. :-) Arise my fair Maiden thou doest well. Lol @Princess Trista
  • We just went through another large batch of people going inactive. It seemed to have leveled off for a while, where one or two would leave in a week, and new players would take their place. But now, they are leaving the game, and no one is replaceing them. Some were long time players wih levels between 50 and 80. I'm wondering if the new trek game has pulled some players away.
  • I have lost several of my fleet members to Star Trek Fleet Command, all level 60 or more. Highly irritating.

I think there might be something about the holidays. I have a level 83 member just announce today that this is his last event. New year...new game? I don't know but people certainly get burned out or bored with STT.

  • The amount of turnover is certainly concerning. Especially when it’s a slow trickle of people coming back in.

I am finding that Fleet Command is taking more of my time. Timelines is not the game which is taking the hit but I know of a few people who are spending less time playing as a result.

I enjoy Timelines but I know CS responses have put people off playing (and I have started spending less as a result)
  • I agree that a lack of appropriate responsiveness from support has resulted in some fleet losses as well as reduced play. I have had several members reduce from immortalizing the weekly event legend immediately as well as maxing event ships if they are new, to monthly card purchasers, often over a relatively small issue.

  • I’m seeing the same, players going inactive, even those who were some of our best performers and SLs. Usually when there’s a space they’re filled instantly, but not now.

Yeah, it used to take about a day to replace someone who went inactive. I went from 50 players down to 38 in just the last couple of weeks. I've been hovering around 40 players since and it just isn't going back up. People in Fleet Chat are talking about the lack of new blood coming in. I'm definitely concerned for the health of the game. And it's cutting into daily rewards.
  • We were clearing out our fleet of inactive. Got down to 22. No one joined since Discovery season one finished! (I guess to be expected fleet name USS Shenzhou).

Folks get mad & start their 'junk'* fleets waaaay too quick *(1/2 dead low level base, that will stay that way). They take two or three of their buddies along with them, all cause they got krunked one day w/ someone else in the fleet. I'd say more fleets are constantly popping up creating vacancies. Not less players, just way more 'poorly thought out' fleets.

  • We now have about 14 vacancies, but not due to fleet drama. It would be ideal to find another smaller fleet to assimilate.

    What level base?

  • 99 level star base. Mostly DS9 fans but not exclusively

I know of two fleets that would be good candidates i'll PM you.

  • I noticed something that makes me think there really is an issue with players leaving the game. I play daily and normally keep all three Arena divisions within the top 1%. I suddenly dropped into the 5% range in the Captain division which surprised me because I was ranked about 850. Normally anything under 1000 was generally safe to stay in the 1%. Currently if your above 796, you are in the 5%. That's a pretty big jump in players leaving.

People today have such short attention spans -that could be one reason. I heard about the game at the convention and I've been playing ever since but I still don't know what I'm doing. Maybe they aren't sure how to play? I'm on here looking for some answers to questions.
  • Speaking as someone who recently left the game, it was a number of things: Burnout, diminishing returns, realizing how much time I'm putting into the game and neglecting other things that were more important, and realizing I had gone as far as I could without spending a boatload of money more than I already have.

I'm surprised this hasn't been discussed more. The top 1% across all divisions has shrunk by 500 players, if not more.

The holidays and player burnout can explain some of the depressed arena numbers. Even with that consideration, this is a pretty sizable drop in players no longer playing a core aspect of the game even once in a two week period.

It looks like the numbers have stabilized. Probably just year-end burnout?

  • I'm not at all surprised that Captain Arena participation dropped when they enabled cadet warping. The reward is not even enough in that tier to use for replicator rations. Personally I immediately froze all of my 2 and 3 star crew. Having slot room to play with is much more important to me than ship schematics I have to occasionally run a captains arena battle for, which serve no purpose to me at all.
