If The Caretaker disappears from the Gauntlet, does this mean that the copy I received from the Gauntlet will disappear or will my copy of the The Caretaker be safe?
It would be more apt to say he is disappearing from gauntlet rewards.
Just like Locutus and Guinan, you will still occasionally get the sporocystian banjo band in gauntlets.

It will be the same as with every other crew from the Gauntlet. They get ripped from player's crew lists, so you will never have to worry about having to fight a wall of Guinans or Caretakers or Locutuses, as they will simply be removed from the game.

Unless they make him available some other way. In April they said they were supposedly looking at other ways to make past gauntlet legendaries available, but nothing has been said since.
