What is the significance of certain crew stats being displayed in yellow numbers vs. white numbers?

When you level up or equip crew stats getting boosted briefly highlight in gold before going back to white. There's a bug where they get stuck as gold or start out gold.

Yellow stats appear when you equip some item and it gives a bonus to some skill
Example for just equiped

After that every other character with third skill gets that glitch

After restart glitch dissapears

Yellow crew stats?
