Does the color of the VP banner mean anything?

During the current Skirmish I recognized for the first time that the banners presenting the 1000 or 2000 VP can be blue, purple or golden. I could not find any correlation to the random rewards afterwards (1x/2x/4x) though. Did I miss anything?

/edit: There is also green.

    I noticed this also right away. Unfortunately what it means to me... is some programming time was wasted on adding colored boxes instead of fixing glitches like this.
