Improvements to Fleet Invites

Aside from myself, I think only one or two other officers actually invite players to our fleet. We usually have at least 5 free slots at all times.

Here's some ideas to make the invite system a little better:
  1. Give honour rewards for successful invites. It doesn't have to be much (25-50 probably), and it'd likely be best to only give it out once the player has been in the fleet for a week, but it would encourage officers to invite players, and also give some positive reinforcement when they see someone they invited has joined the fleet. I personally don't remember the name of everyone I've invited, so I'm not always sure how effective my invitations are.
  2. Along similar lines, an achievement path would also be fun, because then you could easily keep track of how successful your invites are. It would also allow for some friendly competition between Fleet officers of whose invites are most successful.
  3. Fix basically everything about the filter/search, or rather, the lack of one. All you can do right now is search names. What if you have certain parameters you want to search for? Or you want to at least sort a list in some manner. Searching by name is useless unless there's a friend you want to invite. If I don't want to see someone who didn't have a rank in the last event, I should be able to do that. If I want to see people who are at least at level 10 I should be able to see that too. Right now most of the "Suggested Players" for me are level 1-20, with no current event rank and their names are all Captain. That's not helpful.

Basically, can invites actually be useful and fun and not a shot in the dark?

You mean abusing to get free honour?

Well, most Admirals would kick any crew out who just hang around for a week and don't do anything, including not participating in an event. So if you just create a dummy account and add it to the fleet, you might have to actually use it actively for a whole week to avoid the crew getting booted before you collect your reward. That's a lot of work for 25 honour. Also, if Admirals were given the ability to see who invited whom, and one person is consistently inviting low-activity accounts that get booted all the time, they could address that within the fleet.

So I don't believe there would be much of an abuse problem here, especially with a wait time implemented.

I missed the part in your OP about not getting the reward unless the player stayed in the fleet for a week. That would certainly make it harder to abuse.

I can safely say several people send fleet invites every single day. Much more so on event days
  • It is difficult to get a good fleet and starbase into orbit, so to speak. I recruit only 50th level or higher Captains - and yes having the name "Captain" isn't particularly helpful. I've contributed to the starbase and work on getting honor points, but unfortunately - completed - I only have one room: astrometrics completed at +1%. If they knew what they'd have by joining, possibly they would? And active members only make good sense. Recruiting should be easier, or is it: everyone wants to be an Admiral? -Confounded, Turen Counterpoint Alpha 1 Fleet Admiral LLAP

I do not join a fleet because I go at the game the way I want, not the way others expect me to. I get these invites that say “all we require is...” or “we expect you to...” or “you don’t have to do much but we do want...” I’m not going to play a video game according to other people’s requirements. Also, events where I am going after the highest rank I can, everyone wants me to join. When I am just cruising through the event, like this week, I get only two or three invites and I’m sure during these weekends Fleet people would not be happy with me. I realize there are advantages and bonuses to being in the fleet but to me they do not outweigh the feeling of being an entire fleets 8!T(H.
  • If you ever decide to join a fleet, look to Mariners. Low key, and I only expect low level people to be active once a week, Higher level people are given 2 or more weeks, depending on level. I don't send invites as the fleet is open to anyone over level 10.

I read EWB's experience, and it made me sad.

I'm in a fleet, and we don't have a lot of expectations. We do what we want as long as we're not jerks. I suspect there are a lot more fleets like that than fleets with strict expectations.

If anyone's considering a fleet, please check some out for yourself. There's a lot of diversity out there.

EWB, I'm sorry you have had bad experiences, but it's great that you seem to be enjoying the game!

I totally love Star Trek and the game. I don’t want anything to sour that experience for me. Also I love being at the top of an event leaderboard as the rogue guy with no fleet or squad. It makes what I accomplish even sweeter

Yeah, the fleet I'm in is also very laid back. No rules except be an active player (and even then, if you need to take a break or something comes up, you can just let the Admiral know and it's fine). We have some members at lvl 20 who are working on getting better for the events, and some members at 50+ who kill at events.

It's really just a matter of finding a fleet that fits your play-style. Of course, fleets aren't mandatory, but some people like them, and it's hard to say no to extra honour and chrons.

The assumption that some make, that I was in a Nazi type fleet, is incorrect. I have never been in a fleet.

If you've not been in a fleet, how do you know how they operate or how you would fit in or not fit in?

Its actually cool the ranks you get solo and I admire it.. and I'm not knocking it, just going for some understanding.

Because every fleet invite I get comes with requirements. As I have stated all of my crew is fully equipped. I can’t do dailies and I’m not going to pick up crew just to level them because someone else wants me to. I even get people asking me to join them just for an event then leave when they know I’m going to push hard on that particular event. I feel as if people only want me for their benefit when it is my playing of the game to experience, not theirs.

Well, and the counter here is that a lot of fleets aren't like that. A lot of fleets aren't about hard requirements and rules. They're fleets about helping and supporting each other and having fun.

You've been courted by some of the more hardcore fleets, but that doesn't mean all fleets are like that.

And further to my initial point, a better invite system would theoretically get some of the more casual fleets to more easily send invites to other players who have been burned by the stricter fleets out there.

I appreciate that. As you know it takes alot of time effort and coin to reach a top event rank. It’s pretty cool seeing your name high up there

I'm in a fleet that's actually having a hard time getting a slot filled, and some of it has to do with the wonkiness of the invite system and the lack of filters that you can use, so really anything would be an improvement.
