Captain's Log

I don't know how many of you guys/gals used to play the old ST:CCG, but I remember one of the things that made it a lot of fun for me was the addition of the card "Captain's Log". Or, if it wasn't that card, it introduced bonuses based upon who the captain of any given ship was. I want to see something similar to that added to voyages. Where you have a locked spot that you can only put the proper commander of the ship in for a bonus to voyage stats. If you don't have the character, too bad.

It was the LTO of Garrett this week that made me think of it. What if she got a bonus with a 5-star Enterprise-C ship, that could actually give her a little bit of value.

Let me know what you guys think. It would let you get a small bonus to voyage stats, and give relevance to some crew that have begun to mothball. I look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts!

    I believe a variation on this concept has been floated before. Not as specific to matching captain with ship, but more along the lines of getting bonuses for using Vulcans on a Vulcan ship, Feds on a Fed ship, Klingons on a Klingon ship, etc. These would be extra AM bonuses independent of the trait bonus for each slot.

    Your idea is nice, but it could mean being forced to put a far weaker crew member on a voyage than you would prefer to use (e.g. Dukat, Mirror Kirk, etc.). Unless you're suggesting a 13th slot that requires the card but doesn't use their stats?

    Also, what happens if you don't have a card that fits the ship? You said "too bad", and I'm ok with that, but how do you send any voyage? Would you have a refresh button? And if so, then why would I ever send a voyage with traits that I don't like anymore? I'd just keep refreshing until I get the one skill/trait match that allows me to send the same 12 crew every time.

    OK, I'll stop with that. I like the way you're thinking about this, but I'm not sure of the exact implementation. That's ok though, since I'm not in charge of designing the game!

    I meant as an extra optional slot. So you would still run the same crew that fit best, but you might get some extra boost from having a matching captain

    We are at a really weird point for voyages where a good crew rarely gets over 11 hours. I think this would go a long way to making the 12 hour push more feasible.

    AHHH! Now the real truth sticks it's head out of it's hidey-hole. LOL I can see the 100's of forum threads already: "My Best 12 hour journey ... using just TOS", etc. :wink:

    Instead thinking of it as a Captain spot, think of it as a boost spot, like shuttles.

    Put a crew matching the voyage type in the Captain's chair and you get bonus to skills. If they match a ship with their show crew a slightly better bonus or an additional AM bonus. For example, if the voyage was Med/Sci you might put the EMH in the chair. It is a medical voyage after all.

    Of course it will give people the chance at slightly longer trips. But it would also breath some life into some characters lost in the fridge.

    Defiant - any capt sisko variant / Defiant worf
    1701 Enterprise - any TOS kirk variant
    1701-D TNG Picard Variants / Jellico / (New) Capt Riker from the 2 part ep BoBW
    Iss Avenger - mirror forest or mirror archer
    Valdore - Denatra
    Iks T'ong - that 4 star klingon from ST: TMP
    Romulan warbird - Tomolak
    Nova Class - Capt Harry Kim / (new) Capt from Equinox
    Any Borg ship - Borg queen

    Struging with:
    Miranda class
    Ferengi maurader

    You could have 2 tier bonuses....25% bonus / 250 extra antimatter with specific crew and 15% / 150 extra antimatter bonus with crew of a matching trait...eg assimilated janeway on a Borg cube, TNG Riker on Ent D etc

    I like the idea of small/large bonus there, too. Like ISS could have large bonus for mirror Kirk and small bonus for Terran empire or something. I like it. Scimitar: Shinzon big bonus, Reman small bonus.

    Yes, your spot on there with tjose two examples. Would add some value to some older cards too.

    I’d prefer if they just added a wild card slot (if they were to run with this idea). The problem I see with needing specific crew for specific ships/voyages is the merit cost of needing to pull crew out of cryo every day for voyages.

    An interesting idea. It is a bit uneven with some ships having dozens of choices and some having one. But it could be workable. Also, sometimes people were temporarily in charge. What about Jellico for the Enterprise D, or several times Dax commanded the Defiant. Ect.

    Not if they do something like +5 bonus AM across the board. It may not be ideal to have Mirror Kirk in a DIP/SCI voyage, but if the AM bonus is there, you won't complain about some extra stats. Maybe +5 for small bonus, +10 for big bonus. So you have to decide if you want Big bonus for AM with maybe worse stats, or use a better version of kirk and get the small bonus. Each ship might just have one assigned big bonus and tons of little bonus.

    Just a thought.

    I like this idea, too. Call it the "mission specialist" slot.

    I do see your point. And if you have trouble managing crew slots it would certainly get annoying.

    But it's the merit cost that offsets the introduced bonus, and makes using it challenging. Matching ship to crew is a way to spur interest in finding and having those crew. I don't think it should be easy. I'm not trying to suggest a new feature that gets used every day. That would upset the balance of the game a lot more.

    A wild card slot would be too easy, imho. Besides, the people most likely to use and benifit from a ship/crew match are already in a position to have the merits to spend. And really, it's one crew, so one cost of 100 a day. The dailies and a couple wins in the gauntlet easily cover it.

    My point, at the very least, is to give some new value to crew that get lost in the fridge. To add goals to the game. To give them another factor to consider when making characters so they introduce more of them.
