Starbases Addition: New Max Levels in Core Skill Rooms, and future updates.

Greetings, Captains!

As has been communicated before, we are working on an expansion to Starbases. While this will span over the coming months, there are some updates that will happen sooner.

Today we are implementing the following change:
• All Core Skill rooms will see their max level, and their Skill Buff percentage, increase from 6 to 7. Please note the Transporter Room will not receive an increase to its max level at this time.

This will allow for dedicated fleets to continue to make Starbase Component contributions.

In the near future we will also add new rooms to Starbases, we will share more details on those changes later.

Thank you for your continuous feedback, and for playing STAR TREK TIMELINES.

  • I guess it makes sense that the new levels have the holoemitter roadblock, but "ouch" nonetheless. Those will certainly slow us down while the DB Corps of Engineer works on the expansions. At least it's a way for us to attempt to get those Daily Target Chronitons.

Yay the key being we can attempt to meet the targets. In true DB fashion they are applying a band-aid that is only partially sickie to a self inflicted wound that could have been prevented if they had listened the the users months ago. Or better yet did some QA testing prior to launching a new feature to see what it may mean in real time.

Maybe the irony is that we play because we’re Star Trek fans, those hopeful idealists that like to think things will get better when we raise valid concerns about fairness and balance, etc and we forget that DB’s greed openly mocks the values espoused by the franchise they have a license

QA would have nothing to do with whether new rooms are put in or not, they'd simply tell you what issues might occur if they did.
This is a design issue, that will hopefully be rectified.

(Not saying DBs QA has been all that good of late, but this one ain't their fault)

The „whale“ calling BS is getting really old. You don t need to have a fleet of „whales“ to do decent with starbases, yet you prob need a fleet with max or close to 50 active ppl. I am not in a „whale“ fleet, and before the latest addition of new lvs, we ve been LV 38 and close to LV 39.

On a seperate note, i am not a fan of how current starbases work, cause it disadvantage smaller fleets. And i think as well that more than max 5% base boost just widens the gap too much. Really hope we won t see LV 10 base wise and instead getting new rooms like f.e. prof(gauntlet) status, as mentioned a couple month ago.

  • In fact, when Starbases were first implemented, our fleet absorbed at least one other small fleet that saw that they could NEVER meet the daily goals. While they're a happy addition (Hi Rogues), there needs to be a division in goals for different fleet sizes...50 active players of a reasonable level can make the goals.

If you've ever tried to manage a fleet, it's hard to keep 15 active players. My managing days were prior to being able to see daily activity, so it is better now. I just had to judge it on who talked in fleet chat. Which is a poor way to run things!

Speaking of divide and conquer...I've mentioned this before and elsewhere...Gauntlet, too needs to be split into divisions like the Arena. Gauntlet is geared to long-term players or big spenders (dare I say, whales). While a 1/5 does the same work as a 5/5, how many 1/5s did you have at 1 month in? 2 months? Unless you joined during the Klingon, Borg, or Discovery events the answer is 0. So, what I think would work is to use the same divisions as arena; you then allow players of all levels to participate. I guarantee a level 20 Captain has more 2 or 3* folks thawed than I do most days. Lemme count my normal thawed 2*...1, 2, 3.

    Rant off.

Sometimes you can be lucky and actually have an almost fully active fleet. Its lightning in a bottle but it can happen.

Changing proficiency stats will put a lot of players at a disadvantage in the gauntlet. I thought the whole point was to put everybody on equal footing whether they had a 1/4 or 1/5 crew to compete.

Changing it now will go back to the old argument of hey I paid $x for a 5/5 and I lose to a 1/5 (lucky enough though those who have the 5/5's are going to be in a fleet where starbases are close to max)
but I'm sure some will fall through the cracks who started their own Fleets prior to starbases being released.

Won't be long either way before it's mentioned here on the forums if it was a good idea or not

I agree. I'm fairly certain DB said proficiencies when they first announced starbases, but after the initial announcement decided they didn't want to give us any more information or have to answer to any expectations set. However, proficiencies will make gauntlet participation almost require joining an old fleet and will seriously hamper new ones. But a proficiency multiplier will have a twofold affect, both undermining the more theoretical level footing the gauntlet is supposed to provide, and exaggerating the advantage the top tier gauntlet characters have (7% of 800 is a lot more than 7% of 200).

DB ... just saying, it's ok to to stop increasing the level cap just so donations have somewhere to go, for the sake of game balance. 7% cap seems overkill at this point

I hope in future updates you can add a room that extends the amount of members you have going from 50-70
  • Most likely rooms from my perspective are:

Crew slots (5 lvls +1 or +2 per Level)
Antimatter (5 lvls +100AM per Level)
Ship Bonus Rooms (I.e. Deflector Array for ship battle bonus)

Nothing too overpowered, still highly welcomed and good bonuses.

And what would happen if somebody would exit fleet?

Add a market place to sell items, training tokens and ship designs. I would accept awful conversion rates for just the oppurtunity to get rid of my stockpiles for some credits. Call me a Ferengi if you want, but I want to pass on some self sealing stembolts. At almost wholesale price ofc...

And don't touch the proficencies, the gauntlet is messed up as it is. The gaps are too big between top and bottom. Divisions like the arena is a good idea, and if you add rooms affecting the arena an absolute must.

How about having the option of entering divisions without legendaries, super rares etc to match your crew?

    I like your Pictures!

However i do not get the lvl up idea with "reseting rooms". Basically its one additional rooms each lvl so just 4 extra room made complicated?
A different picture / model based on starbase lvl would be great though.

I also like the idea of a replication +1 room. +30 Crew and +1 up to +3 shuttles are overkill in my opinion and would just break the game, especially for shuttle events.

  • Trading post/Marketplace has been brought up before, and definitely needed. From a programming standpoint, it would be a HUGE undertaking, so don't hold your breath.

At the very least trading via a cargo hold of some sort.

Where is the bar/lounge? Theatre? Surely there must be entertainment at a starbase?
I want to become a Dilionaire...

What I expect is much more likely is a room that serves as a fleet-wide replicator.

You would indefinitely build up 40,000 "things" (you could throw in ANYTHING not just starbase components) and get some small reward (100 honor? a 1x premium pull? 50k credits?) for everyone in the fleet each time you completed it.

This would solve a few problems:
    1. Inventory crunch - right now, the replicator is the only reasonable way to free up inventory space and with all the massive amount of replicator rations we have, it can be hard to get everything cleaned up
    2. You'd never get "holo locked" on star bases
    3. You'd have somewhere to add things once all the rooms are built
    4. It isn't HUGELY rewarding (i.e., less rewarding than actually building the real rooms), but it gives you something back for your junk instead of a kick-in-the-pants

I really love this. Hell even a random ship schematic pack would consolidate the items into just one in your inventory.

I'm pleased you like the mockup picture & the changes to the bonus Transporter rooms.

If you read through the thread via the link I posted it's explained the process for levelling up the Starbases.

    However
a much better breakdown of how the bonuses should be allocated.
