To balance Gauntlet, I would like to see a crew that is:
Security: High
Engineering: Medium-high
Command: Medium
Basically, we need a security champion, it is the most neglected Gauntlet stat, and Caretaker needs some competition on engineering. I went with command third to be realistic, and because command is fairly low on representation.
Excluding TNG for the sake of series diversity, I'd first look to DS9 for this combo, and Eddington just JUMPS out as the likeliest and most interesting person to fill this roll, specifically Double Agent Eddington when he sabotaged The Defiant right before leaving to join the Maquis.
Wrathful Suspiria.
To rectify the SEC MED ENG we were hoping for.

Security is definitely a weak overall gauntlet skill but I still think Command is worse off. Kahless is legitimately good. Enabran Tain, Mirror Picard, Admiral Clancy, Admiral Nechayev, Marshal of France Q, and Revolutionary Dakar are all serviceable with the right traits and featured skills (meaning DIP or SEC). But Kahless is the only one to really appear in multiple top ten gauntlet pair lists with a COM primary, and even then it’s reliant on lucky high rolls like Gowron or Defensive Phlox.
SEC has Gangster Spock, Away Team Burnham, Conflicted Sisko, Gary Seven, Ushaan Archer, Augment Commander O’Brien, Fury Kes, Musketeer La Forge, and the Species 8472 Invader who can all beat other crew into submission with solid minimum rolls.
You could make a successful argument to say that the top SEC crew aren’t as easy to obtain as the top COM crew. Mirror Picard was a recurring mega legendary, Kahless is permanently available (albeit at a price that gets ever harder to justify), and Q is a 4*, while most of the SEC monsters are Tuesday pack releases or are just hard to get to drop in regular premium packs.
All that being said, I can absolutely get on board with the idea that ENG needs to be a secondary skill to do something to loosen up the Caretaker’s stranglehold on ENG. I could see that same Eddington working with a COM/ENG/SEC skill set, and have a few ideas as to whom else might work:
Captain of Engineering Scotty
Administrator Vanderberg (Devil in the Dark)
Flint
Prison Break O’Brien (The Homecoming)
Dreadnought Torres
We were just ranting about the overwhelming majority of CMD-DIP-SEC crew on the stream yesterday (which I agree with)
If we do this by process of elimination:
In good representation for Gauntlet:
ENG (Caretaker-VOY)
DIP (Locutus-TNG)
DIP (Guinan-TNG)
SCI (Armus-TNG)
So MED, CMD or SEC should be the primary skill for the next one. I might rule out CMD since Armus is still pretty strong for that. We also need it to be from TOS, DS9, DISCO or PIC, to be fair.
In good representation for Gauntlet:
ENG (Caretaker-VOY)
DIP (Locutus-TNG)
DIP (Guinan-TNG)
SCI (Armus-TNG)
These are all franchise defining characters. Caretaker set up the entire Voyager series.
Locutus was the first cliffhanger in Star Trek. It arguably made TNG a hit.
Guinan was played by an Academy Award winner who wanted to be on the show. Another first.
Armus killed a Star Trek regular. Another first.
Who fits in this company? Who would go well in this collection?
The first one that comes to mind is the second villain to have killed a Star Trek regular: Pah-Wraith Dukat
Who it should be? I like Gary Mitchell ... the first villain who helped make Star Trek into a series.

I would Suggest Loskene but there’s a good chance that we’ll get them this mega because of the Tholian ship Shan talked about in the announcement? anyways if we don’t i suggest Commander Loskene!!! Com/Sec/?

There is (limited) precedent for having an event crew receive solid proficiencies. If the gauntlet special reward crew ends up with COM/ENG/x, we could still get a 5* Loskene as a solid SEC/COM/x gauntleteer as well. I certainly wouldn’t say no to that.

The first regular cast which is an Augment
Baseball Bashir
The first regural cast on two shows
Arena Worf (from Jem'haddar prison camp)
The first regular casts which was fighting against each other through supernatural powers
Prophet Kira and Pah-wraith Jake
And they set the tone for the rest of the show
What about the traveller. I disliked the character but might be a good fit for gauntlet.
He's technically already in the game, but I'd be down for his Native American disguise from "Journey's End" as played by the amazing Tom Jackson.
I am completely okay with this crew in the game...but: unless my memory of him is too fuzzy, I have a feeling he’d be some form of SCI/DIP/ENG and for gauntlet purposes that might be too close to Locutus for comfort.

It's only my opinion but....
The Traveler likes you.
And for that reason alone all is forgiven and my heart is open to him.
