    I'm working on a couple that don't feature an canon crew.

    One is set in a universe where the Federation lost the war with The Klingons that discovery takes place in

    Another tells of Christopher Pike before he commands the USS Enterprise.

    The only idea I have that includes a canon crew is a Mirror Universe Voyager novel.

    Non-canon can sometimes be more interesting. There are fewer constraints.
