There are plenty of Klingons whose name begins with K.

tlhIngan. The tlh is a special sound that can be understood as a K by English speakers but really isn't.

Ahem. "No 'k' in their alphabet."

This is technically accurate. There is no character in the character set used by Klingons with that appearance. On a more technical pronunciation level, they also do not have a sound that would be specificly identical to the k in english. So, either way, the statement is accurate.

The only way to describe this is to relate it to another human language. There is no "k" in Chinese. When you read chinese using the character set used by english you are seeing a closest similar representation of the sound used by a chinese speaker.

The human language sound and character representation we use for "Klingon" is just that. It's the best way to represent it from a human perspective. Technically, we could also write it as Clingon, or Qlingon. The OP is not saying something similar to a hard c doesn't exist in Klingon. What's being said is that a simple hard c identical to one in english doesn't exist. Please feel free to check the wiki which I'm sure exists and will back this up.

On a more franchise timeline note. The Klingon language was never spoken or depicted on TOS. It was added post TOS in the movies. It may be best to do a mental cartwheel and think of TOS representation as all being done through the universal translator for the benefit of the audience. Technically, a Klingon doesn't pronounce that word with human English sounds (just like Chinese or Yiddish is not) but we write them with a k because it's easier for us.

In Trek, the Klingon homeworld is sometimes spelled "Kronos" or "Qo'nos".
