Event rank achievement

I attempted a top 1000 run in the Fireside Stories event, having never got under that before, and did far better than I ever thought I would - #17. However I only got the "compete and rank in an event" achievement for finishing under 1000. It's still saying I haven't finished top 500 to get the next stage. Is this working as intended? I'd assumed it would be like collections and whatever number you had, you'd get all the reward stages up to that number, but at the moment it seems like I'm going to have to repeat this run another five times to get the top 500, 250, 100, 50 and 25 ones, something I very much don't have the resources for. It's taken me four years to get to the point where I could do a top 1000 run, if I have to do it another fives times to get the reward for the rank I got on Monday, I'll be old and grey and playing Timelines on an actual holodeck before I get them.
