Dismissing a Squadron Leader?

What happens when an admiral dismisses a squad leader from the fleet? In game, it says their squadron will be disbanded. I've read threads here that say another member will be promoted. I have a squad leader who has been inactive for almost a month and no longer has access to the game. It's also the most active squad in our fleet. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    From past experience it just puts a random squadron member as the new leader.

    Exactly.

    Originally the squad was disbanded, but sadly WRG changed it a while back,
    that the Squad Lead now goes to a random member of the squad.
    Instead of making it better, they made it worse.
