Advice & how to read it.

If you've read my advice in the old forums, start reading at the bottom & stop when you read something you've already read.I've emailed the advice to Disruptor Beam.
a)As the tutorial states that some aspects of gameplay may vary where you live, you should have tutorials for different locations or ensure that the tutorial explain the differences in gameplay by location,
b)The game should have only 1 type of currency,
c)In away missions & the gauntlet, you should screen the titles & names of the screened members. If there is insufficient space for this, use short forms & initials,
d)To make the game realistic, players should lose resources & suffer casualties from missions & fights. To make it more realistic, the game should have real resources & allow casualties to be healed by medical resources,
e)Alerts should be sent to gamers who are using the player chat feature,
f)When a member is chosen in the Crew feature, the member's traits should be screened,
g)When a member trainable to the next level is chosen for training, the training to the next level should be automated,
h)If a gamer has members that are trainable to the next level, you should inform the gamer, the member's name & title & what training is needed,
i)You should assume a successful faction or episode mission, excluding reattempted episode missions,as a success & screen the number of successes for each player &,if there is only 1 non buyer with the most number of successes screen his or hers name & the number of successes by him or her.You should do the same for buyers. Then there is no need to screen player levels,
j)The tutorial should be accessible to players starting in the game before they are forced to log in,
k)The player chat feature should allow copying & pasting of text & photos,
l)Gamers should be allowed to trade currencies, ships & items for other currencies, ships & items. At least they should be allowed to trade for an item with another version of the item with more stars,
m)Players should be allowed to choose between an aesthetic version of the game & a faster version of the game,in the Settings feature. If the faster version is chosen, the game should not screen member or head images & in space fights, the members' titles & names should be screened, instead.Otherwise, the game should play as usual,
n)The tutorial should explain what order are the lists screened in or the sorts done, how proficiency is obtained & calculated, what the buttons & boxes are for in the Crew feature & what is in the right part in the screen in the Crew feature,
o)Proficiency should only be obtained via training or participation,
p)If a node needs members with a certain trait & the node is chosen, you should screen members that have the trait, only,
q)The tutorial should explain what at CRIT is,what are the chances of it happening in the gauntlet & what are the chances a featured skill will be tested in the gauntlet,
r)If an item is chosen in the Crew feature & the item is needed by other members,it should be marked,
s)Training should be given only to members that participate in missions, space fights & the gauntlet and not be made available to any member,
t)Each member should have only 1 max. level:The immortal level,
u)Upgrading should be automated,v)If a gamer achieves a target or finishes a mission, the target or mission rewards should be given to the gamer, without him or her having to claim them & the gamer should be informed,
w)The player chat feature should've different rooms for kid chats, adult chats, serious chats, non serious chats, political chats, singing chats, non game related Star Trek chats, scientific chats, lifestyle chats & sports chats,x)Supply kits should be effective in the aren,
y)The tutorial should explain that gamers who don't contribute 2,000 VPs don't get squad rewards,
z)The game should inform when the antimatter gets to a specified amount,
aa)Gamers should be allowed to set turn back times for voyage,ab)As humans should long sleep 10 hours/day,the time between dilemmas should be closer to 10 hours, the time for unboosted faction missions should be closer to 10 hours & the rewards & crew needed for voyages & factions should be changed, accordingly,
ab)As humans should long sleep 10 hours/day,the time to recover from gauntlet bouts should be closer to 10 hours & the gauntlet rewards should be changed, accordingly &
ac)patient,impatient,focused,unfocused,curious,honest,civilised,hypocrite,mature,immature,dependant,independent,uncivilised & dishonest should be traits & astrophysicist,exobiology & warp theorist shouldn't.

    Wow. Just wow.

Anyway. Some of these suggestions are downright cryptic. I get that English is probably not your first language, OP, but let's face it: the combination of weird wording (who "screens members" in the game?), confusing punctuation and atrocious formatting make the whole affair really hard to read.

After forcing myself to reread it several times, I've now convinced myself that the original post is some sort of performance art piece (which is obviously too brilliant for me to comprehend). Anything less than that would be a letdown at this point.

Could you please continue the petty bickering? I find it most intriguing.

It does have a coffee house performance art feel to it

I'm sure the OP has put alot of thought into this, but as presented it is difficult to understand , most likely the result of language barriers. Most of the suggestions would structuraly change the nature of the game, some would destroy it, most are confusing, but there are a few (to be fair to the OP) good ideas. But most need to be better explained or do not seem to be well thought out (for example, a 10 hour cooldown based on how much sleep the OP believes people need...this would only result in 2 or 3 sets of shuttles per day, making the daily achievement impossible for those who dont buy extra shuttles. You are essentially sacrificing the ability to play throught the day for overnight efficiency). Likewise, I am curious how the ability to put images in chat won't make the chat harder to read or be abused by the jokers in UC.

The only entry that I actually had an emotioal reaction to was the last one:
    ac)patient,impatient,focused,unfocused,curious,honest,civilised,hypocrite,mature,immature,dependant,independent,uncivilised & dishonest should be traits & astrophysicist,exobiology & warp theorist shouldn't.

Some traits in the game repressent intrisic features (ex: species), some represent more abstract personality traits (ex: desperate, brutal), but most are skills (ex: astrophysicist, pilot, nurse). How is eliminating those skills that repressent fictional science in a science fiction game usefull?

I am still not sure if this is a prank, troll or performance art piece, but I'm going to take the OP on ze's word. The post provides alot of food for thought, despite it's flaws.
  • This feels like an attempt at trolling... Having said that, the game is a journey, not a hand-guided tour. Many things on that list can be accomplished/learned from some trial and error just playing the game. Other items, to me, just scream lazy. Imho, there is a good idea in that wall of text; a better explanation of CRITS from DB would be nice. Unfortunately, what I gained the most by forcing myself to reread it a few times... is age.

  • I think it's their Masters thesis........
  • Adding a laundry list of suggestions across many features of the is a surefire way to get your suggestions ignored.

Adding suggestions 1 by 1 is a better way to get your suggestions ignored.

The daily achievements can & should be changed accordingly.FYI.Some can't catnap & lack of rest kills brain cells & that didn't come from a lack of brain cells.

Gamers should never be forced to play games to know about them.As a gamer looking at at a new game, the question on you should ask is "Is the tutorial good?".Anything else would be stupid.

Then I don't need you to read/listen to me.

People who sign up for the forums are prevented from creating new threads right away. It's a spam prevention feature, as we got a lot of that in the old forums. After 2 days, and a few points, you can post. (I've helped you towards getting some points by "awesome-ing" your post. :)) In the meantime, you can go to this thread:

g)When a member trainable to the next level is chosen for training, the training to the next level

Some suggestions are good. I like this. A button that just says, "I have lots of trainers. Use whatever is calculated as needed to jump it to the next level." But it should be an option, not automatic.

I have reached a level 2, and I added name and screen name to my settings, but it still shows me as guest.

(Incidentally, I liked the "Enterprise" series best, too.)

I’m glad you posted this cuz I’ve been thinking about that comment I made and it was rude. I apologize. Also glad to see another Enterprise fan out there. That series just spoke to me. I liked it because it was when mankind was first going out there. To me that was more adventurous than any of the others. Anyway, hope there’s no hard feelings.

I'm not offended. Don't worry there. takes an awful lot to offend me. It was another guest who you too issue with originally, anyway. Your apology is still a classy move.

Each series has various aspects that are best. Has there ever been a poll put up where people have voted on the best Star Trek series for ____?

As to the original post here, while I agree the language skills are either non-native or below-average, some of the ideas are good and others encourage thought.

There's some decent ideas in there, but the majority are some really crappy ones as well as some game breaking ones as well. For instance the chat channels one... unless there was another complete UI redesign to change chat channels on a phone I'd be scrolling and scrolling and scrolling. And seriously a singing channel? A politics channel? Photos in chat? Is this AOL?

One type of currency. Yeah if DB did that it'd be nothing BUT DIL.

It feels like this is also from a singular perspective on a large screen device that is not a phone and leaves phone folks out in the cold on some of the implementations.

Realistic game casualties -- basically putting exhaustion in for missions? Or you lose items rather than gain them for shuttles? Really really no thanks. Gotta wait for shuttles to come back, gotta wait for Voyage Dilemmas, gotta wait for Chrons, now I gotta wait for characters to heal?

The idea of bringing everything to a 10 hour change though thought provoking from a health standpoint, makes it so you're also not playing the game on those functions during waking hours as well.

Basically the perspective I get from this guy is that he wants everyone to play the game a lot less. I enjoy the game, I want to play it more, when I can. And yeah I work and have a family.

The only one max, seems to want to get rid of the star system entirely. The proficiency one seems to think that XPs should bring XPs rather than Items. That, though very D&D or Palladium, doesn't seem to have any real additive value other than a reason to use more crew.

But yes, there should be more game documentation from DB, whether in tutorial or tool tip.

Glass 1/4 full or glass mostly empty I guess, lol.

First off, knowledge will always come through play, as not every detail can be placed in a tutorial. The game gives a basic tutorial that covers the high points (as a game develops, a tutorial may need tweaking). However, many of the functions you can learn in-game by playing. I, for one, do not want to waste time in a mandatory tutorial (that many games make us go through before actually playing) trying to explain every potential facet of the game; especially when I can obtain basic information in a myriad of other ways (wiki, Forums, other players, or playing the game). Further, there will always be aspects of a game that some want in a tutorial, whilst others think it is not necessary. A complex tutorial can be just as problematic for players as a poor tutorial. A better question would be, “Is the tutorial efficient and relevant as is, when conveying a general understanding of the game...?” The answer to that question would influence whether or not DB does anything about the tutorial.
