How inbox messages are being displayed in 9.3

Since I've upgraded to 9.3 the way the messages in my inbox are being displayed are squished. If the message title goes over one line it overlaps with the From: line. It appears like the box for most of the message entries have a fixed definition size instead of it being variable like it was before.
This is what I'm seeing - using an iPad on iOS 16.5.1:

I have exactly the same issue with 9.3.
This is what I see on my Amazon Fire tablet. ("Fire HD 8 Plus (12th generation)" , "FireOS 8.3.1.9")
