Recovering Spock's traits

How can this crew be both civilian and starfleet? Realistically, one cannot be both. If I join the military I am no longer a civilian. I become a civilian again once I leave the military. I cannot call myself a civilian while I'm serving in the military. It doesn't work that way.

Fleet Admiral - Dazed & Confused 🤸🤸🙃 We are still waiting for Enterprise B, the Delta Flyer, and a Runabout! We should also have a TNG season 1 red shirt LT JG Worf, and a "Far Beyond The Stars" DS9 episode crew collection!

Perhaps his mind is still Starfleet since it didn't die, but his body is new and that is civilian until he can get back to Earth.

    Because he is in disguise.
Why do people complain about additional traits anyway? It is beneficial

Several of the other crew from The Voyage Home are shown as "undercover" but the only other "civilian" is Dark Ages McCoy. So even this logic is flawed.

  • Just apply Code of Honor illogic to it. He is in some ways deceased and his revived corpse is no longer in Starfleet, but in other ways is still Captain Spock.

Katra McCoy is not a civilian. Dark Ages is a civilian and Starfleet and an undercover operative. Don't most "undercover operatives" have the traits of their cover identities? But Professor Scott isn't a civilian, and he's definitely playing one...
