    Hard to say, given that we've got no idea what uniforms anyone wore when Kirk was an ensign.

    It looks like it was based on Finney's uniform from "Shore Leave".

    Maybe "summer cruise" Cadets were brevet ensigns?

    Robert Heinlein did a whole thing in one of his books about how cadets {they would actually be Midshipmen in a "Naval" service} aren't actually in the CoC.

    Why was it necessary to change the Ensign Kirk card? Upper picture is the new one.
