Voyage Event: Event Timings

I know this is a test, but based on the start so far, I not really happy with the interaction timings of this type of event.
With Galaxy and Skirmish, to make progress I can pound on my phone at times convenient for me. Perfect.
Faction events require me to pay attention with a certain level of frequency, but after the initial start, it would be every three hours. But I can use shuttle boosts to shorten or lengthen the voyages as needed/desired. (those 9 hour voyages are great right before bed time.)
Here, it looks like I have to interact with the event every half hour or so. (first encounter was at 30 min, 2nd hasn't occurred and am at 40 min.) I see some "Skip Encounter" tokens, so maybe that will be part of it, but it doesn't offer much in frequency.

Take someone who can't use their phone much at work, or maybe just enough to resolve a dilemma. Galaxies and skirmishes are fine since they can do it on the weekend. Factions aren't ideal, but they can compensate by using 9 hour boosts during the workday, and use shuttle tokens to send out more than 4 at once. For voyage events to be comparable, those skip 2 encounter boosts (and ideally having skip 3 and 4) will need to be handed out at the same rate as the shuttle 9 hours boosts (so, like candy).
Another aspect is tying up your crew in this long-haul voyage. I staffed it with all bonus giving crew and I had around 4200 antimatter. We're also clearly incentivized to keep the voyage going as long as possible to keep our multiplier bonus, but I ended up recalling it this morning while still having plenty of juice as I wanted to do continuum. I could probably change up my continuum strategy so I'm done it by Thurs mornings, but ideally this event should not effectively block doing continuum.
Curious how it timed out...
I haven't used any of those tokens but figured they would only come into play if a voyage was extended, since my fuel ran out long before the gauntlet matches became the least bit competitive, even reaching the 11:30 encounter.
It has a two hour thirty minutes timer.
That is useless, or it is a bug. Timer should have been 4 hours. And only ticking when the voyage is moving.. Or as you said Scott, it should skip 2 encounters.
I was wondering about those VIP0 players and new players and players without a deep FFFE gold crew roster. Will this be similar for you as Other events at scoring? How is the scoring for a typical player?

I am curious because the first time I checked myself on the leaderboard, after about 2 hours, I was already a factor of 3 behind the leader. (I started about 10 minutes late, but that should not be that big a difference). I dont think any of the boosts are relevant yet (surely no one needed to skip any challenges in the first 2 hours), so are there any other ways that the score could be increased?
(I did NOT have any of the event high bonus crews on the voyage, if that is relevant).
I am unsure but I am also very curious, like you it seemed highly suspicious that people who all started at the same time as the pack were able to surge so far ahead so quickly.
