Why is there no stat boost associated with these items? Nothing on the Wiki, so I guess it has always been this way.

    It probably provides ship bonus and it's just not posted on the wiki. Ship bonuses have always been tricky to document because they aren't displayed on the item - you have to either watch the popup display or compare the stats before and after equipping.
