dropping a Squadron Leader - what happens to squad ?

Hypothetical question - what happens when you drop the Squadron Leader - what happens to the squad ? Or is it even possible to boot the Squadron Leader with a least one other squad member in the squad ?

Comments

  • We did it. Squad gets disbanded automatically
  • Ok - then they can reform a squad then - but squad lead is banished to the airlocker. Sounds good.
  • Do I have to boot someone out of my fleet in order to change leadership in a squad?

No, but the current squad leader would need to transfer leadership to the other player. And that other player needs to be an officer, I think.

Could you please continue the petty bickering? I find it most intriguing.

Squad leader does not have to be an officer.

Ah, good to know. I wasn't sure, as that's how we did it recently in our fleet, but I didn't know if that was a mandatory step in the process.

A squadron leader can voluntarily give up his position to another member of the squad.

However, if the squadron leader is inactive, the only way an admiral can remove the squadron leader, is to dismiss him from the fleet. This automatically disbands the squadron and the members of that squad then become squad-less. They would have to reform a new squad with a new squad leader. I recently had to do this due to an inactive squad leader. There was no option to just remove the squad leader, or replace him with a different squad member.
  • I'd love if DB gave admirals the ability to shift leadership of a squad without booting the squad leader, though. Sometimes life gets in the way, you don't want to just boot someone, and there's another leader ready to share crew for an event. Currently (in case of absent leader, and to avoid booting them) everyone in the squad has to leave the squad, form a new one, and invite everyone back in.

I have a slightly different problem.

I started a squadron and am an officer. I promoted another member, also an officer, to leader for cross-training in a Faction event, after which s/he passed it back to me. So far, so good.

I then promoted another member, who is not an officer. This current leader is now unable to change the squadron status from Restricted to Open. Also, this leader cannot promote me but can promote the other non-officers.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this, apart from telling the leader to disband & then we reform? I would appreciate any help, y’all.

EDIT: the status is more important than the promotion, because we need to add a 5th member soonish.

  • Wait until you see what happens when a squad leader disbands before everyone has collected their event rewards ;)

I just had that happen to me in the last event. /o\

Could've really used those credits this week, too...

Since I cannot actually see the squad management currently, please remind me of the button(s) s/he needs to press in order to change the status to Open.

EDIT: I checked the Wiki. That page is empty, so any information you provide here could also be added there, to help others in the future.

Edit: did you try to make one of the other non-officer squad leader, maybe things work for them

Thank you for the above. I cannot do so now, but I will ask the current leader to promote a non-officer and see if that person can change the status. Good idea.
