A google search for "star trek ripper" would have taken less time than posting this thread.

Then go ahead and delete the thread, please.

I will input that its art looks absolutely terrible to me.

I agree about the art :(

Well, it was originally planned to be bridge crew on the show, so...

That boggles my mind. I'm guessing psuedo-adopted vulcan would be telepathic translator for orders?

Just too messed up. Like bad Trek novel messed up.

I don't know. In one After Trek the producers were talking about it. Went so far as to concept art/design a bridge station for it and stuff, but was cut because would have been too costly to have it be crew like that.

    EDIT: Here we go...

Oh Orci and JJs co-conspirator. Doesn't change my analysis except that it makes sense considering the source.

    Into Bleh-ness.

With his hidden Diplomacy skill, which is going to be high enough due to being a two-skill Legendary, it's going to be possible to get:

Ripper refutes Q with a debate worthy of his best with Captain Picard and others. Q acknowledges the crew's victory.

It is official: the Tardigrade is a master debater who can beat Q.

"In the original conception, the tardigrade was one of the bridge crew members…" Kurtzman revealed. "It was going to be like you come in and there was Mary and there was Shazad and then there is Ephraim [named for the first zoologist to observe tardigrades]. It would have been really cool because he would have just been there."

Thanks for sharing that link. Do you remember which After Trek episode they talked about that in?

And then there's people like me who shudder at the thought of either being playable in game. I'll live with Ripper, he will never be a crew I'll try to get, but every time I see him, you can rest assured I will cringe at him.

5000% agreed. Like a lot of people questioned if we should venture into TAS and I say yes, we should have and I'm glad we did. Arex and Lucien are still humanoid and functional enough to be crew. Ripper though, that's reaching over the line into "now you're just being silly" territory.

  • Was really hoping for something more true to the giant tardigrade's character and specialty, in the form of ENG or SCI primary with SEC secondary or tertiary skill. With epic spacey art:

I was looking for art more like this as well. They chose the absolute worst possible pose for that portrait to me, and THEN did a poor job of it. Also, I know he’s a big hulking, nearly unstoppable monster of sorts, but the Security skill makes him sound like he’s going around with a phaser, wearing a red shirt and standing in the background while Kirk, McCoy, and Spock do all the interesting bits.
Weirdly enough, I’m also Vulcan Housewife. Also, RNGesus hates me, like really, REALLY hates me.

Consider the following, from ‘After Trek’ Reveals Klingon Details And Original Tardigrade Plan For ‘Star Trek: Discovery’
    Tardigrade was originally Stamets’ boss
Executive producers and show-runners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen J. Berg talked more about PaleyFest revelation that the tardigrade was originally planned to be a bridge officer on the USS Discovery named “Ephraim.” The character was to be Lieutenant Stamets’ boss. There were scripts written with “full on scenes,” including Ephraim talking to Michael Burnham “about the meaning of life, spores, and the beauty of mushrooms.”

A special bridge station was designed which he “leaned over” and there was also a special “sash” uniform for him as well. Harberts said having a tardigrade as a character on the ship was “pretty trippy,” and “fantastic.” But, in the end it just wasn’t feasible due to the CGI costs involved.

    Also, this.
We are all downstream from each other and ourselves, therefore choose to be relaxed and groovy.

This really was the crew I wanted most in the game by far:

    Oct 10 -
I'd like to see a 5* Giant Tardigrade ENG/SCI/SEC. They would hands down be my favourite crew ever.
    Oct 24 -
We need MED and other forms of events. I like Sarek. Other characters who are also important to the series who I want as (3-skill) crew:
    Dr Hugh Culber
    Michael Burnham
especially Ripper the Loveable Giant Teleporting Tardigrade / Water Bear

    omx7jld7kvpb.gif

Though due to creating the character as from the uninformed initial perception of a couple other characters, missing essential appropriate skills and traits (ENG or SCI primary, pilot), and before the epic art has returned to do justice to the creature (with dark space blue/aqua hues like in the show: why jarring yellow lighting for nearly every new crew?) - I'll pass. Unless they come up in an event someday.
  • Ripper's sentient, and effectively functions as a navigation specialist for the spore drive. Having him a playable crew makes total sense to me.

In fact, it makes more sense than having a super-powered being like Q on your bridge crew. It's infinitely more sensible than Spot or Porthos.

Oi! Spot and Porthos are sentient! And they can... navigate... sort of... :D
