Make Events have MORE purpose.

In the beginning, events held storyline significance with hoices like which Faction won or choices on which character would do what in the story. This would be welcome and most appreciated if this feature was implemented again. Especially the player voting.

Yes!. We know DB has to write it small tidbits for shuttles missions and recipe and expedition nodes.
Writing in consequences for faction A winning over factions B and C and suggesting to the player base the possible results would be great.

Right now, it seems Mirror Picard has no chance to escape. But other galaxy missions in the past we have had choices.

For factions events, DB would have to change what the shuttles drop if they want to support a true story line that the player base wants. Everybody knew in the first faction event of the Mirror Event that the Terran Empire would win cause of the 1* Terran Empire Emblem shortage

There's always been a case of that for some folks who don't care about the plotline. Or the ones who always just play the leftmost faction. (Spatially not politically.)

I think there is a way to have storyline for the people who want it and at the same time let the people who don't care, be able to not care.

And your OP on putting thing back on the old track might work. I was answering the point that it seems to be something new that certain factions would win no matter what the plotline.. that is nothing new, but still ok.

If nothing else, they could possibly write into the mega events that if faction A wins, next week crew A is featured, if B, B, etc. yes it means they need to write up extra crew stats, but they can release them over the month after the event ends.
Whether that gives you the level of purpose you're after I don't know, but it does give some consequence.

I really don't read the stories, I simply play and that's it!
