New year resolution: Make players happier?

Dear DB,

For new year resolution, how about "to increase the overall happiness of players"?

1. Give players better ROI of their $$$. Increase the drop rate of legendary in premium or event packs to like 25% (actual 25% not 25% increase from whatever the drop rate is). No whales in this game can ever have all legendary cards immortalized anyway (well maybe a few)?
2. Give user 10 selections in behold or there should be at least 1 that is not duplicate!
3. No more schematics from packs!
4. Increase the shuttle success % or maybe it fails, give % of the items instead of trainers.
5. Allow players win the gauntlet more & make it more reasonable! (and thus allowing players to open more lot boxes)
6. Change faction store price (did anyone really buy those with dil) & dabo spin cost?

Happy wife, Happy Life!
Happy players, Happy revenue!

With the new ships coming down the line and promises (though currently unfulfilled) of them being put into packs eventually, I would like the schems to stay. That also helps newer players build up ships.

A decrease in drop rate I could get behind.
  • All good suggestions. To be frank, after this last fiasco, though, I don't see myself putting any more money into this game. VIP14 for quite a while now, but this game is so immensely expensive to play in comparison to many other games out there for what you get that spending more with DB is not in the cards for me.

To give an example, I can play World of Tanks Blitz day and night as many times as I want and be competitive for literally a few bucks a month. To be competitive in this game would take 1000s. The ROI isn't even close. I love Star Trek and have since I was a kid, but not enough to spend the kind of money DB thinks the game is worth.

In the case of Timelines, though, I have to wonder how much of THAT is because of what it costs them to license the property. I will say, though, their level of delivery and professionalism don't come up to what should be reasonable for the cost, regardless of the reason for the cost.
  • I don't doubt the licensing costs are significant. For me, it has become a question of where to spend my limited entertainment dollars, and what STT offers me isn't worth it anymore. It's pretty obvious to me that DB cares more about getting new players hooked than catering to the older players that they have already made money from, so I have adjusted my playing habits to compensate. The costs to be competitive in this game far outweigh the actual entertainment value for me. When gameplay becomes a chore, and that chore would cost me money commensurate with buying a house, then its time to step back from this and 'smell the roses'.

Been down this road when I used to play Mafia Wars, and that at least kept you busy 24/7 if you chose to play it that way. STT lasts about 10 minutes a few times a day, and for that, DB charges an exorbitant amount of real money.
  • Considering so many discussion happening on this game, certainly a lot of people like this game & still want to play this game even after all the blunders happening in the game.

I hope DB reads this post & any posting requesting improvement and really make significant changes in the game to improve players morale. The game requires enough grindings & constant check in daily as of now and making players happier & enjoying the game more should be the ultimate focus before most of the players walk away.
  • Perhaps make shuttles run for 4 hours instead of 3 (but with increased rewards to match increase in time), so we can align them with gauntlet + voyages.

For DB, we'd still be signing in lots per day, just would help their players with happiness / scheduling / sanity. + health for those who run them without 9h time boosts over night during events.

I really do like the idea of revisiting the shuttle rewards, but run so many shuttles for faction-only items that increasing the time is a tough pill to swallow. If the increased rewards included an increase in faction-only items as well, I could get on board.

  • i’d like to see how many players actually still active in the game.

I had ppl on my fleet taking break from the game or just quitting the game. Some just went AWOL and we kick em out. And this just keep happening month after months.

    You can understand why....

Players grind so much but fail a lot with shuttles/gauntlet and they became not excited about them. And on top of that spending money without ROI.

I don't agree with "no more schematics from packs", just add the newer schematics to the pool and it would be a LOT more worf-while! :)

  • 4. Increase the shuttle success % or maybe it fails, give % of the items instead of trainers.

I’m down with the increase % but if it fails I like the trainers only. Just because it’s more true to what would happen from a real failure. You learn from it but not get what you were trying to get.

Here are the numbers for Arena players who have completed at least one ship battle within the past two weeks, by division:

    Commander 134061
    Captain 111835
    Admiral 142075
