In the last of my many tickets regarding the gauntlet counter not refreshing when the 4h run out, I was informed that only a handfull of people experience this issue and I'm curious if it is so.

In my experience, there are two criteria to trigger a refresh of the crew:
1) The previous 4 hr timer needs to have run out
2) I need to open the application
Lately, it sometimes also necessitates me opening the gauntlet window as well. This doesn't happen all of the time, by any means, but does happen sometimes.
Example:
Timer is set to run out at 00:00
If I log in at 00:30, then the NEXT reset will occur at 04:30

Maybe the irony is that we play because we’re Star Trek fans, those hopeful idealists that like to think things will get better when we raise valid concerns about fairness and balance, etc and we forget that DB’s greed openly mocks the values espoused by the franchise they have a license

Peachtree: Is this how it's supposed to work?
Gauntlet refreshes at 00:00, I start playing
Gauntlet set to refresh at 04:00
I have the game open at 3:50, the little bubble icon shows 0 crew fresh (because I used all of them in the last 3+ hours).
I keep the game open until 04:10 doing other things, it still shows 0 crew fresh
This is what happens to me every day. The crew fresh bubble only resets to 5 after I open the gauntlet after the refresh, not solely after the 4 hour refresh.
I admit, I usually keep my game open. It's a bad habit from before when it took longer than my screen timeout to open. Now that the game is much quicker to load, I should try this and see if it works.
Still not ideal, but it's better than it not working.
I don't know how it's "supposed to work" I just know how it appears to work on my phone. I HAVE seen the behavior where it forces you to open the gauntlet screen to refresh it, but it doesn't happen all of the time.
A broken watch does show the correct time twice a day...but it's still broken.
I can tell you how it works for me. Say I go into gauntlet and select a fatigued character, it says 3 minutes left. Three minutes later, there is a 5 and my characters are refreshed.
I have no clue what kind of a point you are trying to make. You asked for people to convey their experiences, I have done that. From those basic rules, I've been able to work the gauntlet timer without any (game-created) issues the majority of the time.
count yourself lucky. that has never happened to me. i always have to open the gauntlet to see if the refresh has occurred - which drastically reduces the usefulness of the fresh character counter.

more like only a handful of people have reported it ....
I personally have never seen the counter refresh and did not know that it was supposed to refresh until reading this thread.
This is my experience as well.
Gauntlet ends at 6pm for me. So I wanted last round to start at 5:30pm. Means previous round needs to star at 1:30pm, pre to that 9:30am, and if I wanted a couple more battles 5:30 am. Last is dependent if I wake on my own I do not set alarm for it.
But the refreshes are now happening automatically for me, whether I am on the ap or not. Part of the reason I stopped playing gauntlet. But this is minor, as all my reasons. But, they all add up to me not playing anymore.
Edit: after editing lost my vote. My vote was the counter refreshes.
you have stated twice that the counter does not refresh all the time, when it should be, e.g. when the 4h countdown has run out. That means that it does not work. There is no middle ground here...either the counter does what is supposed to do ALL THE TIME, or it doesn't. It either works as it should or it doesn't work.
We are not talking about anything else except the fact that after you use your first character in gauntlet the countdown starts...after 4h it refreshes your crew...the counter(yellow bubble on top of the gauntlet with 1-5 no. on it) is supposed to alert you when the countdown is over, ALL THE TIME, not just some of the time.
I have no idea how it is "supposed" to work (that's up to DB). I am making no claims that it either works or doesn't work, I am simply stating what I have observed and nothing more.
