Here's a question that might have been asked.....

Why it is some things, you can craft a higher * version from lower *s, but not others? Feels a little inconsistent.....

They were Easter eggs. Tuvix and The Duras Sisters were Easter eggs that people figured out.

Those are the only two so far that it can be done

I think he meant equipment, not characters.

Oh. Hmmm. Well. Hmm. I mean, most equipment are crafted from lower *’s. Must have been why I assumed characters. I think I need an example

Perhaps it means a certain type of equipment. Two 0* component X can sometimes be turned into a 1* component X which can then be joined with 2 others and some component Y to make a 2* component X. However, component Z can never be doubled or trippled to make a higher level component Z.

If that was the OP's intent, then I guess the answer is so that we will be forced to use shuttle missions and cadet missions.

I think he meant, for instance, why can't 2* Earl Grey Tea be crafted from 0* and/or 1* Earl Grey Tea. At least that was my interpretation of the OP. Seems like a question that answers itself, though: Because they can't. Much like the question, "Why are apples red?" "Well, because they are."

Could you please continue the petty bickering? I find it most intriguing.

  • Oh. Like science experiment 2* is only an Augment faction item but science experiment is farmable with cadet missions and so forth

Unless you can’t see red because you are color blind. Then it’s not red
  • Or why doesnt the keeper's 5 star illusion require a 4 star or even a 3 star illusion to be built

Some of that is to increase or decrease the base and proficiency levels of the characters. If they require more items, the level increases.

Yes, equipment recipes can be very random. DB decided to try to balance their chroniton/shuttle costs in a weird way instead than just enforcing a unified crafting scheme for every item. Yes, some items ended up being much worse than others. Yes, some recipes contain things that make logically not much sense. Is any of this per se a problem?

It is my nature to be unclear, I guess. I did not even think of the two Crew we can Fuse, so did not specify I meant Equipment.

Personally, I find amusement in how Klingons apparently build their communicators out of gagh and their armour out of bloodwine.

  • Same answer that applies to nearly everything else in the game... RNG.

But seriously, there was probably a lot of people involved with the different aspects of gear design, item distribution in missions, and leveling up layout of characters over a couple of years time. I get the feeling there wasn't a grand roadmap in place, or much coordination between anybody who worked on these things.

I do not think we want Holoprograms needed to build 1 star and 2 star Holoprograms.

Actually I think a better question regarding science experiment is why is the 0 star not factionable.

But it sure would help with Casings and the like.

Better question to both is why 0 star Holoprograms can't be gotten as regular rewards from away missions, and why 0 star science experiment is so damn hard to get to drop.
