Someone wanna fill me in on some back story that couldve caused this?

    A similar question is why Odo needs so many Bajoran phasors. He doesn't use weapons.

    Ha ha...almost made me go to the wiki and see if this was actually one of the faction missions...seriously though...what goofball at db could make such a silly mistake?

    Well the faction mission is indeed real, I searched through the wiki to find an appropriate mission I could attach a plausible story to.
