Game iconography bleeding through when starting a Gauntlet battle [Steam]

Playing on Steam on Windows 7 64-bit. Haven't had this issue before today, but just noticed that when I start a Gauntlet battle, this "iconography" of other game elements flashes on the screen in the background for a brief second, then disappears.
Could you please continue the petty bickering? I find it most intriguing.
