Newbie question on gauntlets

I run into some very high powered characters to battle. Is this just because they are most likely immortalized?

So far the ones I choose from my crew are no where near my level, it has happened a few times though.

I appreciate any advice.

The gauntlet only uses proficiency rolls (those green numbers). So a fully leveled one star crew is all you need. But you'll mostly see legendary (5*) ones in there.

For my first month, I generally scored about 130 to 140. Then I had a crew boost and began scoring about 115. Then 90 to 100. Then about 50. Now, about 5 months in, I can usually score about 20. You'll get there, but the rewards are not so much better that you should neglect shuttles and voyages in favor of gauntlet. I believe shuttles are a better priority while brand new.

The best Gauntlet strategy when using weaker crew is, whenever possible (that is, when you have a shot at beating them), go for the opponents with the smallest # of trophies, 10 being the best. The fewer trophies you accumulate, the lower-ranked you'll stay, and thus you won't end up in the mid-to-upper ranks (ranks which will, eventually, be filled with much stronger opponents). You're not going to get a very good rank at all until your crew is solid, so don't even worry about that. I wouldn't really worry about streaks at all, either. Instead, just try to get as many wins as possible, so you can accumulate Merits. Building up your Merit stash should be the main focus for awhile — which means, you shouldn't ever spend Merits to refresh your opponent list until you have decent Gauntlet crew. If you don't have any opponents who you can beat, just keep plugging away (and losing) until your crew are all completely fatigued, because you will get achievements for the number of rounds you do, so that will pay off for you after awhile.

Could you please continue the petty bickering? I find it most intriguing.

  • Not immortalized- as others have said, the number of stars a crew has does not impact their Gauntlet performance. However, the rarity of the character often indicates better overall quality, which may be reflected in skill proficiencies (which is what Gauntlet competition hinges on). If you see a powerful character, odds are that character is a. a high-proficiency crew that b. has been leveled to 100. The wiki, the Cost Estimator, and several other tools can help you identify which crew are the strongest for Gauntlet.
  • Weak crew that have okay stats in the Gauntlet include:

    Nurse Paris - Command (32–98) Medical (93–335)

Command Wrap Kirk - Command (170–345) Security (77–190) Diplomacy (116–330)

    Hope this helps.
