Are you particularly in need of anything? Shuttles, Voyages, Gauntlet?

    Thoughts in no particular order:

    1) Picard, being Picard, is much more likely to show up in events than Tash or David.

    2) Picard's 3 skills are the three most common ones, whereas Tash has Science and Engineering, which tend to be harder to find than Security and Command.

    3) David only has 2 skills, which makes him a weaker candidate for Voyage crew than the other 2.

    4) Taking a quick look at the wiki, David's Science and Engineering tend to be higher base numbers with low proficiency rolls, while Tash has lower base numbers and higher proficiency rolls. Between David and Tash, David would be better for Shuttles, but Tash would be better for Gauntlet. Tash is also better for Voyages than David, mostly because Tash has 3 skills to David's 2.

Robin Hood (Picard) has pretty insanely good SEC for a super-rare. Before any starbase bonuses, he's 942 base at 4/4 and 724 at 1/4.

Could you please continue the petty bickering? I find it most intriguing.

This is exactly why I like asking on the forums versus just look at raw crew cost/stats on the wiki. Great analysis, thanks!

  • That's a good additional point, Data1001.

Ah, I was leaning towards Tash, but now...

  • Well, one thing that is useful to consider is what part of your crew complement do you want to focus on developing? Also, do you have personal favorite crew, races, etc? For example, for a number of people, the mere fact that Picard is Picard would be enough, whereas other people would lean more towards mechanical needs.

Well, I do find my Gauntlet crew is pretty much all the same 7-8 crew depending on primary skill, so I suppose Voyages is more my focus for building crew.

And yes, I do tend to lean more towards command crew versus those who have only appeared once. In general, I struggle with the super-rare bottleneck that occurs in crew quarters (as I ask about here: https://forum.disruptorbeam.com/stt/discussion/3011)

  • It seems like you have a pretty good grasp of needs & wants, and now it just comes down to which one better meets your overall decision matrix. As far as Super Rares go, it seems like you have 2 candidates that both seem at least ok to possibly very good matches to what you want, so it is just a matter of picking a preference.

For what it is worth, you are ahead of me, I'm a relatively new entrant into the game and can see the bottleneck looming...

I have Task, but haven't leveled him yet. Picard looks awesome.

But I want to point out that David is David. David is, of course, the best name. Therefore, David cannot be a bad pick.

Oh, you several hard choices in your future. Which of my Trek children shall I let go?

  • I've decided to start with self-deception, by telling myself I can somehow keep ahead of the deluge.

More seriously, I'm going to focus on keeping one version of each of my favorites, and being ruthless about who to keep.

I’m terribly torn between Robin Hood Picard and Tash still...!

I happen to have all three crew ... here's my line of thought ...

    1. Picard - He is event crew, so at some point that event may come around again and you might be able to FF him if he becomes the threshold reward ... also will be of use in other Picard events, especially with his high SEC base score.
His SEC base at 1/4 is really high so can easily function in shuttles.
I have him at 1/4 and is next on my list of crew to level once this mega-event is done.

    2. David - A one-off. I recently finished levelling him (they removed the Doctor trait ... argh!!!), but at 2/4 he'll be of little use, also there are plenty of good SCI/ENG crew that have recently come out (Graduation Burnham etc.) that are just better than him. Okay base stats at 1/4, decent rolls.

    3. Tash - A one-off. His base stats at 1/4 are terrible and only his SCI roll is any good, but I doubt that will cut it in Gauntlet for most people but those just starting out.
I have him 1/4 lvl 1 and he'll remain so until he is 3/4 or 4/4.

--> I'd go with Picard, because even FE at 1/4 he is of use ... e.g. he can take the place of an immortalised SEC 4* regarding base scores and even your voyage stats won't be hit too hard if you decided to do that.
Furthermore, you do have a chance to FF during his event (will take a while for a re-run) and he will be of use in all Picard events just because he has such a high SEC base.
He's also easiest of the three to level.
His only negative is that he is a Picard (have quite a number of Picards - 6), and I personally like collecting unique crew.
  • Well, Tash can be decent in the gauntlet when fully equipped if you’ve no one better but Picard is almost always going to be the better choice. His set of skills are used more often, Picard himself is more likely to be an event crew, and he’s got more traits. Plus, he’s dressed up like Robin Hood for crying out loud. That’s awesome!
Weirdly enough, I’m also Vulcan Housewife. Also, RNGesus hates me, like really, REALLY hates me.

David was also a PITA to level. And he went straight into cryo when I finished him.

Ended up succumbing to the Picard. (Even though he’s waitlisted.) Thanks for all the advice!
