5 day events on holidays.

I am not a fan of the extended events on holidays. I don’t think my fleetmates are either. We’ve been conditioned to expect 4 day events. I just assume that’s what they are at this point. Had no idea this one would keep going. Columbus day is a whatever holiday if it were a real family holiday I would definitely not want to be stuck with a 5 day event.

I agree, especially since it's not even a holiday in every state, much less world-wide. Beyond that, I need time to level characters and complete missions that aren't event related--I usually do that during the week and then focus on the event over the weekend. 5 day events are too long.

That event was exhausting. If they ever do a 5 day event again, which I hope they don't, do not do an event where we have to use chromitons. That was horrible.
  • +4 While I agree, no more extra days on events. I'd like to also shorten events by a day as well.

  • It is Thanksgiving Day in Canada, so I think the extra day was just to compensate for the holiday.
  • I agree with this. That 5 day hybrid faction/galaxy was a garbage chron sink of a event. If you guys ever do that again please make sure the 3 day part is shuttles.

They have done 5 day events in the past, the first part always goes until Saturday, the second part until the end whenever that will be.

I support this. Four days of events each week is already too much in my opinion anyway. Events should be something special and not take more than half of every single week. I am all for weekly events, sure, but maybe instead of thinking to expand, actually reduce the amount to three days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)?

On full events, I agree. Hybrids actually I think need 4 for the 2 phase. Full on galaxy, just shrink phase II, but I'd think that would not be fun for hybrid.

It would help if they would take one weekend off a month for server maintenance. This would help the players take a break or level or run voyages over the weekend with their best crew, and DB could correct and fix bugs, update the game with time before the next event.

    Agreed.

Personally, I think events are too long as they are already, even without extending them on holidays.

    Strongly agree!
  • I disagree sadly. Some of us have responsibilities and jobs. This makes the lead up to the big points (in the current meta) in faction and hybrid events harder to do reliably without bigger gambles.

Shortening events would only put us all more on the razors edge and at the the mercy of the RNG.
  • Thanks for listening to the player base and ditching the extended holiday events, oh wait...

The alternative would be to only have an event every second weekend (with 4 days duration). Princess Trista is right, there are now so many things you can do with gauntlet, voyages, and maybe a new episode to clear on the horizon ... who needs weekly events? Packs can still be sold in the time portal (which is what they do anyway). ;)

*hugs Princess Trista for the idea* :)

I wouldn't play a galaxy event if the top prize was $1m and cash prizes for the top 50 let alone for duplicate crew if you got event packs I suppose everyone is different.
  • Agreed. And five days of Galaxy? lol

4 days each time please. Whatever holidays are in a player's home country, playing time will have to fit around one's RL schedule, just like with work, school, family, jail etc.

If the schedule is for DBs benefit, consider that there are many organizations do not have the luxury of shutting down completely, including multinational companies. Asking for volunteers to have someone oversee the event launch (or whatever reason justifies the current Wend start) would not be unreasonable & may not even require a full day. While many patriotic Americans are sitting down to eat Thursday, it may be considered "more American" to go to work on the holliday (I've done it myself more than a few times).

I'm one that does like that they give DB employees some flexibility to be with their families.
HOWEVER, honestly, I've also done the work on the holidays thing. Including tech support for a PC manufacturer on Christmas morning.
Offer a competitive shift differential and go on a skeleton crew. Make it volunteers first and only force a bare minimum folks if it's necessary. Otherwise hell you've got the event running DURING the holiday and can't respond when things go south if its not right at the first.

And hell, so many other things on the game work on timers, you can't tell me someone actually pushes a button to start the event. It's already on a timer. Just need a skeleton crew to babysit.

And some DB folks did have to work Friday... that's how we got our event notice.
  • But were they working from home, or on site. If at home how much time did they actually spend working? I know Black Pebble was on a few times, but probably not as much if he or Shan had been in the office.

So then why have an event at all during the holiday if you aren't there to support it? It's not like their office is in their data center either. They're remote to their data regardless (unless they are running this like a 90s dot.com.
