They personalized the UI for Iphone X, and how about other 75% users of android or another IOS, we have images cut and UI smaller, bad change! And where is the filter for inventory???

It's about Whale Hunting. Apple users are less thrifty than android users and spend much more on in app purchases. Even worse are the people willing to shell out $1200 a year for a status symbol, and they're even more willing to spend even more money than the standard Apple users.

Incidentally, the UI is also cut off on the right and a bit janky on a standard 16:9 (1080p) screen.

And the cryo vault didn't get organized. At least not completely. By the third character it's already broken. Anastasia Kira is between Alexander and Antaak, and not with the other Kiras. So 3/504ths in, and already screwed up.

Wow didn't know Doug Jones wasn't straight... Ok. Learn something new every day I guess. <Shrug>

On that note, which part of John Billingsley isn't white or male?

Well we know he is straight or at the most bi, being married to the actress who played one of my favorite supporting characters in Chuck.

Shame that I don't think they had kids, as I bet they'd have awesome comedic timing and supreme deadpan skills.

I mean, presumably the guy was commenting on the characters, and Saru is a Kelpian, albeit a white one. (don't know if there are non-white Kelpians)

So you would say they are all light meat?

On a more serious note, I think most folks consider Seven Borg, so that would mean there is only one truly human character at all in the pic at all. It's a loaded, at least partially trolling declaration so it's being met with humour and irony.

If we just consider the Alpha Quadrant, there are probably a lot more non-Terran humanoids than Terran Humanoids, so some of the statement I meet with <shrug>. So I thought I'd have a lil fun.

Hell technically if you go by character only O'Brien and Bashir qualify for DS9 for the demographic this person is supposedly championing (and Bashir is an Augment so maybe just O'Brien) --- So again, I gotta let off a <shrug>. Voyager, lesse, Paris? I think you gotta go all the way back to TNG to go for a more than one white male supposedly straight character in the main cast. (And if you don't count Wesley, that's just Riker and Picard). The vast majority of the main crew of TNG is 'minority', whether they be African American, female, android (the ultimate minority as there never were more than a handful of Soong models) or alien.

And as Roddenberry had a pretty big hand in bringing TNG to the table, I'm not so sure he'd be displeased in seeing the makeup of backgrounds of the various characters that have come and gone since his passing. He may or may not be happy about other developments, but hey, I ain't gonna go there.

I remember hearing these same drums being beat when DS9 and Voyager were released. (They usually used more colourful language, especially in my former workplaces.) And it seriously just makes more noise so that real objective analysis and critiques of all the above shows gets drowned out.

And it's doing the same thing here, it's distracting us from the issues/acceptance/non-acceptance of UI changes that are the original point of the thread.

  • I'm disappointed with the UI changes
In every update things seems just seem to get smaller... the formatting is clearly meant for iPhone X, I agree, what about the rest of us...?
  • I'm disappointed with the UI changes
I was glad when I finally got a phone with a larger screen to make things easier to see and read, such as the opponents' crew level in the arena, but with some of the changes, the interface is smaller now and I'm back to square one. The interface of some other aspects in the game were made smaller, too. Not thrilled.

Yeah, I get where you're coming from. Even looking at TOS, here's the main crew:

    Kirk
    Spock
    McCoy
    Scotty
    Uhura
    Sulu
    Chekov

That's almost 50% "minority" characters (and pre-Chekov it was 50%). It is truly silly when people complain about non-white, non-male characters in ST.

Also, Bashir was of Indian ethnicity (presumably, I don't know if it was ever confirmed exactly where in that region his ancestors would have been from, so maybe he's of Pakistani descent or something), so technically DS9 only had O'Brien.

The text was already hard for me to read before the change. Now it's even harder. I suspect the slightly smaller art was influenced by all the complaints about about deteriorating quality of character art. That said, it could be worse. I'm not getting my pitchfork and torch out over it. At least not yet...

I'm waiting until all the changes go into effect before I make any real judgements on it. I'm glad DB has finally updated the cryo vault, even if it isn't perfect (still listing some characters out of alphabetical order.) It's still better than it was before. Any improvement in the game is welcome and appreciated.

    I'm glad they're hypocrites too :P

He was British though, as far as where he was born (as opposed to "ethnicity"). I recall his parents also having British accents and his father talking about Hyde Park or some other place in London.

I only skimmed the thread but I didn’t see it - my biggest complaint is that highlighting an item to focus on the right panel in the crew view dims the left side. Makes it very difficult to see the stats being updated as you equip items.

To add insult to injury, I put in a ticket to get my dilithium back because of the chroniton purchase window, and they would only do it if I let them take the chronitons. Nice. Usually CS throws chronitons at you for your inconvenience. Not anymore. I guess DB doesn't want my money anymore either.

The UI is actually worse for iPhone X users than it is for most of the rest of us.

I also disagree with the implication that the iPhone X is merely a status symbol. I have an iPhone for the benefits of the fact that most of the other people I know have iPhones- I can iMessage my friends in Canada, Brazil, and England without paying the absurd international fees I would need to in order to text them on an Android. I can use Find My Friends to figure out when the heck someone is finally going to be back from a “quick trip” to the store (seriously, these Pokemon Go players... ;P).

And the reason I would want an X as opposed to what I have now is largely battery life. The X has an OLED screen, which means that despite being a larger screen, it actually uses less battery power than the smaller-screened iPhone 8 Plus. In addition to that, the battery has a greater capacity.

I still consider my Mophie phone case to be the best investment I have made in this game. It eats up battery life like Troi does chocolate.

Also, my brother has an Android phone, and he purchased it at around the same time my mother did her (at the time) top of the line iPhone (she got the S Plus version with the largest available hard drive). My brother’s phone was more expensive.

Edit: Forgot to answer the bit about the sort method.

@Black Pebble answered this in another thread.

The reduced size of some game graphics isn't too bothersome, but it seems the update broke notifications on my device. Not that I'm not getting notifications - I am - but that I'm getting no notification sound with them despite having notification sounds set and despite not being in do not disturb mode. Needless to say, when I'm busy editing a book or even just out and about not hearing a notification is equivalent to not getting a notification, and this is a problem.

Because of this I've blown through 200+ dilithium that I didn't want to use, trying to recall a voyage that by the time I saw the notification had already stalled due to running out of antimatter. I could have abandoned the voyage but can use the chronitons as well as the Nexus Kirk in the rewards, but really, notifications worked as expected prior to the game update.

Think DB would laugh in my face if I raised a support ticket and asked for my 200 dil back? *rolls eyes*

    I don't understand the issue?

It's showing the diversity of the game, mainly by including "crew" and not just "captains" which everyone expects to see in an ST loading screen.

My main gripe with the new loading screen is Worf doing double-duty as the TNG and DS9 rep, also that the TOS rep is from the movies

With all due respect , Worf is not pulling double duty. He is wearing his command uniform, which was DS9 exclusive. If he was still in his security uniform, you may have had an argument as he wore that for his first 1-2 DS9 episodes.

I am happy about the way they solved all the waiting for animation during Galaxy events, that now tapping on the screen, immediatelly ends the animation for the object being constructed and also for the prize of constructing the object.
I am uncertain about the UI chango on the Vault, bacause I haven't seen it yet!
I am unhappy about 2 changes I've seen about the screen size on the Fleet screen and somewhere else I can't remember now.

I stand corrected, but I still think DB should have used 2 separate characters to represent each show. For the record, I am okay with Worf being one of them. In fact, if they used Chief O'Brien, for the other we could call it a double-double.
