This Weeks Event

Gotta few things to mention - but first on the list is.....

Why is Ellen Landry useless even in her own event? Even FEFF, I have not used her in any supply mission.

Secondly - I noticed a significant change between the 1st and 2nd phases. Normally the usability of your event crew, and the difficulty of the missions (crit% and avg chron cost of item) is fairly constant. This time it wasn't. eg) Cornwell was critting at ~90% for several supply builds for phase 1, and for only one for phase 2. Add to that there were more higher cost items in the recipes for phase 2.

The more cynical amongst you may suggest that this was a blatant attempt to get people to spend more money for chrons at the weekend. I hope not, and invite a DB rep to respond....

  • My Landry is only at 80, and I have used her plenty, esp where double skills are needed, ergo CMD/SEC. Being that her bonus is higher than say, Ash at FF/FE, she has been over 95% in getting Super Rare rewards for me. Lt Tyler still shows up higher on the list, but is only about 60% for SRR.

Just because she doesn't show up at the top of a given list, doesn't mean she isn't stronger than who is! This has been talked about many times in various threads before.

  • That's understood, but I've deliberately selected different crew to compare. In the current phase at least there has been no supply mission where she has a better crit% than Cornwell. The only ones not tested are the sci/eng builds. tbh I cannot speak as to the first phase as Landry wasn't high enough to register at all

That makes no sense whatsoever. Spending is driven by player-to-player competition, and the two things you said are disadvantages for all players. Why should this make you spend more money? Your competition is also performing much worse than they normally would.

For instance, many players spend money to get to the top 1000. Why should they spend money if they have less VP points than usual, as long as they are in the top 1000? Their competition also has less VP than usual.

    They won't.

  • Through phase 1 I used T'Kumva FFFE quite a bit. This morning I got Landry to FF level 80, and now am using her over T'kumva, which means he is back on Shuttle/voyage duty.

My Cornwell is immortal. She was ideal in almost all cases. I used others a bit, but I was only focused on threshold. I was going to do more, but I decided to use the rest of my supply kit time for all the mission levels I've been ignoring. I spent over 2 thousand chronitons totally passing and critting a whole bunch of levels. I'm pleased with that. T'Kuvma and Fun Sponge were good, too.
  • Cornwell, T'Kuvma and Burnham. Only those three. I spent heaps of chrons levelling Landry and did not use her once. I was surprised too, normally event crew smash these things. Burnham and T'Kuvma are bonus crew - I assume Mudd could slam some of the Burnham recipes as they usually specify eng or sci but still.

    Very odd.

First Phase for me was Cornwell & Burnham show, Cornwell for DIP and MED, Burnham for SCI. There was IIRC one item that Landry was useful for and even for it T'Kuvma was 1 or 2% higher than her despite FFFE. There were two missions that I didn't touched (Path of War and Path of Peace IIRC*) because they were just THAT much worse chron-wise so maybe she was useful there... but, well, I didn't touched them because I love my chrons to much for such waste (like 30 vs 60 chrons at best) so I cycled everything else through the last slot.

Will see how it would be this phase.

    * Funniest thing - third one: Path of Logic was IIRC like 0 chrons constantly. Everything was 200+ items in storage.

So... tested stage 2. Cornwell, Cornwell and more Cornwell. No Burnham this time. Landry do appear... in "In the event" which is like THE worst chron rate mission that I wouldn't take even if I'll be losing chance for 4th Mudd. And on two items out of three she's better than Cornwell by... wait for it... ONE **tsk tsk** PERCENT! She also appear ONCE in Bravery and Strength, also just 1 percent better and it's second mission that I don't touch though it's not that bad and it's possible if unlikely that it will be changed by another with use of stored items.

Can't make Boldness and Passion to appear but IIRC again Cornwell and certainly another chron-sink, she was another "do not touch" before Bravery used 3 or 4 stored items that changed it's chron cost to "do not touch" and it will be it that's likely will be switched with Bravery again if I'll run big enough amount.

So, yes, Landry did NOT worth spending chrons mid event if you care about place. As I plan to NOT take top1000 due to space issues (current 641 is pure coincidence) I do not cry about chrons spent. But somebody who want Lissan or even top places...

PS. Well, she may be a bit more useful if Cornwell is just 4 stars... on that worst quality 3 missions... And what somebody who have Cornwell only at 4 stars doing fighting for Lissan anyway?

Because of the difference between the 1st and 2nd phases. So people (one assumes the majority) who only do this weekends need to spend more to catch up with those who did phase 1. Its a little more involved than that, but illustrates the point. Also, even if it is player driven, if people play more to get what they feel is a safe buffer, then the increased cost does have an effect.

Like I said, I don't necessarily think that it was deliberate, but the thought was there - so I raised it. It certainly nudged me into not even trying to compete for top 1000 position.

This is because Landry has weak base stat for security but strong proficiency which doesnt have any effect in galaxy events. Shame that prof doesnt do anything in galaxy. Cornwell is really good and everyone should have her at 4/5 so I am not surprised a 4/5 event crew is being used more that a 4/4. She should be higher. Landry will be very good in security gauntlets in future though.

Not really. Too much DIP and MED items. Not enough traits matching in item building. Landry could've been easily much more useful if it was made much more carefully. As it is it's Cornwell's show pure and simple.

Hrmph. I can easily reject your assumption that it is the majority. First of all, the majority does not spend money, or doesn't spend money on Galaxy events. Secondly, in my guild many people stockpile chronitons and therefore tend to use them as soon as they can (so that we don't waste the chroniton recharge), which is phase 1. If I were a spender (which I am not), then I would need to spend less because suddenly I'd find people in phase 2 catching up much slower.

Oh, I get your reasoning. But your suspicion that DB did this to make more money, via an oblique and convoluted method, is entirely based on an assumption of yours about player playing and spending habits.

Still, DB won't answer you, I'm ready to bet.
