It's always been Undiscovered Country for me (preferably the extended cut with Odo in it). Wrath of Khan just behind that, and next up... it's got a lot of problems, but honestly if I was sitting down to watch something and TUC and TWoK were off the table, I'd probably go TMP.

I was being a little flippant; Rene Auberjonois has a minor role as Colonel West, a Starfleet intel-type guy who briefs the President, and a couple of other bits and pieces. It's not critical like the TMP director's cut, but it complements the film nicely.

YouTube's got the extra scenes yeah. So far as I know only the theatrical version is for sale at the moment - I don't think the extended cut's ever been released on Bluray. It used to be on DVD but the ones on sale now are just theatrical cut as well. Amazons's got it on streaming though, I think.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

I agree with the general consensus that the even numbered ones are best.
TMP is a lot less impressive on a small screen, and it shows that it was a shorter script padded out to movie length. I've heard it called "starship porn" and I largely agree: you're there for the pretty pictures not the plot.

I liked Undiscovered Country quite a lot, and Voyage Home for different reasons, and honestly Final Frontier is pretty faithful to TOS in that it is an interesting story but continuity isn't really a part of it.

But every time I see Wrath of Khan I like it better. There is a lot of stuff in that movie that changes if you know the whole story, and a lot of what looked like random stuff the first time through now seems like part of a plan.

Wrath of KHAAAAAAN! is certainly excellent and probably the best objectively, but I prefer a touch of humor in my movies.
Watching Scotty pick up the mouse to talk to the computer gets me every time.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

The thing about TMP is, in some ways, I feel like it's one of the most 'pure' Star Trek moments of the whole franchise, even though they kind of accidentally did it in the form of a concert instead of a film. But you have this utopian futurist wet dream of a starship (give or take the transporter turning people inside-out) given all these amazing glory passes by the camera to the stirring score, really laying on the 'look at the amazing things we're going to do (if we don't nuke ourselves before we get to the 23rd century)', and then they go out and discover this vast thing, so almost unbelievably massive in its scope that the 'majestic' starship we spent all that time drooling over looks like just a tiny little toy beside it, and so enigmatic and unknown that they spend pretty much the whole time just trying to understand it, on any level at all. And then the moment when they do get it, Spock figures it out in this lovely moment of friendship, taking Kirk's hand with "This simple feeling is beyond V'Ger's comprehension." That really hits me in the feels.

And if I ever do shave my head for any reason (I dye my hair so I'm kind of attached to it what with all the effort, but still) I can only hope I look half as cute as Ilia.

Director's Cut though, it's a massive improvement.

To this day, I think it is the best science fiction story ever told.

Khan is by far the fan favourite, and one of my top movies of all time. I voted for Voyage Home because it brought a much needed human quality to it that was starting to get away from them in the movies.

I-II-II: Drama drama drama, a little action, and definitely emotional (They blew up the Enterprise!)

Definitely ST IV TVH for me! I've seen it so many times I couldn't even guess at the number and I still enjoy watching it. I can actually say the lines with them while the movies playing.

IV came first for me. It's the first Trek movie I remember seeing in the theatre when my folks took me. I still remember being a kid, chatting with an usher about the upcoming new show (TNG) and his comment that he waited with bated breath.

Next would be II then V then III with TMP and TUC tied for dead last.

Yes, I enjoy TFF. Say what you will about Shatner but I think he's a more cinematic director than Nimoy. Visually, Shatner's approach is more appealing than Nimoy's. I also think Shatner has a better understanding of the characters than he gets credit for and V is closer in spirit to TOS than the others. I also have no issue with Scotty bumping his head. It doesn't demean the character and makes him human. I think everyone has stubbed a toe or hit a doorframe with a shoulder, etc, etc,.

I also, looking back, think Meyer isn't all that and a bag of chips. I still love II even with his more militant, nautical approach but VI doesn't hold up well upon repeat viewing.

The Voyage Home was the funniest (and best) movie. Most of all I love the scenes with McCoy.
