This was exactly what I thought my reaction would be to having a new high proficiency roll Engineering character added to the game, but as I have thought about it a bit more, it's actually not as bad as I feared, because of the secondary and tertiary SkillsThe Caretaker has - or perhaps better said, which ones he does not have.
With his secondary skill being Science, he basically becomes a mirror image of Seven of Nine for his highest rolling combo in The Gauntlet. Regarding his third skill of Medicine, there are plenty of other high rollers there, and so while (independent of Traits) he will be the best, he will not be completely dominant.
Why I am relatively okay with his introduction is because I will still be able to use a variety of other crew in The Gauntlet for when the Engineering skill comes up in a combo with any of Command, Security, or Diplomacy. For all these, I can think of characters that will be very competitive with The Caretaker, or anyone else with a high proficiency roll in any of these 3 skills.

My 45% vs their 5%. Same astronomically improbable shenanigans. About as mathematically possible as winning both the power ball and mega millions.
