I want to make sure I understand this.

Base skill - used for shuttles
Proficiency Skill - used for gauntlet
Combined skill - used for voyages

Is this correct?

    Correct.

Base skill is also used for Galaxy events.
Combined skill is also used for normal away missions, and Expedition Events.

    For further clarification:

    Voyages
Combined skill = base skill + average proficiency roll

    Away Missions
Combined skill = base skill + proficiency roll (+ trait bonus)

Technically, there's a possible trait bonus in voyages, as well, it just increases your Anti Matter rather than your skills.

    True.

For those wondering why I left it out:
    - A +25 in AM due to trait bonus ... is maybe a 1% increase in your overall AM.
I believe this bonus means your Voyage can stay out 1 minute longer on average than if you didn't have the bonus.

    - A trait roll on Away Missions is worth a lot more ... e.g. +27 on a mission that needs 114 (approx 24% difference).
A bonus roll greatly increases success if the correct crew is used.

One case in which 25 AM can give more than a minute is if you’re still passing hazards on some of your skills.

But otherwise, your voyage uses about 22 AM per minute when failing all hazards. (:
