I am a new player. Is this unwelcome threads closing policy standard here?
Only if they are spam or aggressive. As Shan says, there are plenty of threads in which to make your point. Opening up half a dozen to say the same thing is too hard to moderate.
I am a casual reader of the forums, so I do no see every post that gets made or locked/deleted. But my take on this issue is a lot of the posts/comments are not being constructive or even civil. It seems they are more along the lines of: "DB, you screwed us. Why can't get you it right. My 2 year old can put out a better game than you." I am sure they know they screwed up, again. They know the players are upset. There is no constructive criticism, just bashing of DB.
Obviously most, if not all of us, do not know how this game is coded. So maybe they planned on doing a 3 faction event, so it should be 6 shuttle missions per faction that can be opened at one time. But then somebody decided to change it to 1 faction. Maybe it was something they overlooked", but since with a single faction you can open double the amount of multi-faction events. It was "stuck" in multi-faction mode so that is why we can only open 12.
I am not making any excuses for DB. Just trying to give some perspective how a single change up can become a major screw up quickly.
I have a suspicion that a big part of it is that this is a hybrid event. The first since they made the switch to 6 missions per faction, no less.
It would seem likely that we will see the Klingons and Romulans in Phase 2.
Sounds logical. Still, it's ruined people's ENTIRE WEEKEND so Shan needs to let the forums get over-run with spam threads because, you know, she doesn't have anything better to do than sit there and watch people lose their chocolate cronuts.

Had we gone more than a couple events without making this kind of error, folks would be more forgiving.
Honestly, it ain't this instance, its all the instances leading up to this coming to a head with this one that has folks up in arms.
Even rioters often have a point. Should we let them trash the city centre though?

You just joined your opponents in hyperbolic analogies. I guess if you can't beat em, join em.
The rage that's coming out is because it's been two years. Two years of doing this game, doing these events, making these mistakes or variants and it always always ends with the line
"Sit down with the team and review policy/ discuss / investigate where our communications broke down/failed"
This.. to the player base is very rapidly becoming akin to T'kvuma's Rage for the predictable Federation phase "We come in peace"
Anytime something goes wrong, event or otherwise, "we come in peace"
I have seen it I'm pretty sure 50 times with out exaggeration.
Character not in a special pack ?
We come in peace
A dozen characters not in a portal update ?
we come in peace
Event ending a day early ?
We come in peace
Event crashing with 15 minutes left in an event that goes down to the wire ?
We come in peace.
Said there would be 20 missions in single faction events ?
We come in peace.
Meanwhile, seemingly ignoring simple suggestions from the user base to alleviate many issues only to make the same mistakes over and over again.
And if this one off was a -one- off,
If the answer had been a simple "oops, sorry.. messed up, we'll have 20 next time" there would have been 3 memes with sesame Street learn how to count jokes and that woulda been the end of it. Instead, it's now going to be random number of missions, random number of factions for a random number of days subject to change without notice. We come in peace.

I don’t think I see it happening that way. Last night on here there was 1 thread discussing the issues and people were (rightly, IMO) expressing frustration but I wouldn’t say in a spammy or aggressive way.
That thread got closed.
After that another one opened up asking if it could be re-instated. That got closed.
Then a couple of other threads popped up, on different subjects (like seeking clarity on forum rules, this one and one or two others with some players sharing other ideas and points as follow on topics).
I don’t see this as ‘opening up half a dozen to say say the same thing’ AT ALL.
Anyone who thinks all this outrage is about ONE miscommunication is clearly not getting the picture. It's about the PATTERN of screw ups, week after week, month after month, and the predictable, empty promises to change this pattern... which never changes. The players are sick of excuses. It's reached a boiling point. DB can spare the resources to assign 3 admins to shut down threads criticizing them yesterday, none of which actually got nasty, but they can't spare the resources to update the portals for what, 5 months? 6? Or make sure the event info they released is CORRECT? Or get caught up on the backlog of service tickets? Players SHOULD be outraged by this, because it IS outrageous. I'm not interested in excuses, or half-hearted faux apologies. Just fix the cronut-ing problems. Mistakes happen. We all get that. But here, mistakes ALWAYS happen. DB should be happy people are expressing their outrage here, because that means THEY'RE STILL HERE. That means it's still in their power to KEEP them here. There's a window here and it's closing. I don't have to be a prophet to see that.
I was disappointed there was no compensation of any kind for the error. Compensation for mistakes is what made DB better than the other game companies.
Normally I'm all about compensation,
But we're almost getting to a point of.. not good enough.
Im losing faith in the previously believed good will / good intention but unfortunate execution of said intention.
Before Picard-Gate to me, ok.. these things happen, they'll comp it and it's cool.
I believed in DB.
Not so much to do things correctly,
But to make it right in the end and that's what matters the most to me.
I still believe the intention of the Picard give away was a not to well thought out attempt to be kind and generous which I'm personally grateful for because I had a feeling something would happen and didn't citation him..
The problem if that the mirror Troi should have followed an hour behind him because that event crashed. I could have had more stars for her..
People who didn't get her could have..
People who got her likely shouldn't have if others could have bumped them..
The results were skewed by a fault of the DB servers. They should have sent a Deanna to everyone. That would have resulted in me even buying a pack to make her 3, because we all know 3 is where the juice starts on a legendary.
But no. They deny the Picard was a pre planned gift and everyone had to fight like heck to get Deanna's.
Even to this day, is everyone whole from that debacle ?
That is when it switched for me.
Ever since, we've been ignored, can mocked and out right lied to.
They aren't trying any more.
it feels like they don't care.
And it really hurts because I want the game and company to succeed and continue.
I’m not as upset about this botched event because I spent nothing on it and only bothered to level up one character to prepare, who was somebody I would have maxed out anyway. I guess a lot of people are just doing threshold and out because I’m still way up in the standings without having any chrons or event-items stockpiled.
I’ve spent money on past botched events though, and felt like the errors cost me standings and my investment was wasted when I didn’t hit my targets I was expecting.
Really, there is no excuse for them to keep making these mistakes with the prices they charge for everything. I know this is a game and all, but it is a game lots of us keep shoving hundreds of dollars into. I don’t think anybody would complain if they just shut down events for a week or two so they can get this all sorted out and get procedures in place to make future events work correctly.

Don't post pictures like that! You might get jailed like I did.
(I love sarcasm)
No. In fact, in the past, there have been a lot more threads I've been surprised they haven't closed.
Could you please continue the petty bickering? I find it most intriguing.

Amen to that one.
In that case:
Has anyone told you you look Marvelous in stripes?

I still lol every time someone posts that Oprah meme here. What a mess that debacle was.
I believe that today would be absolutely perfect timing to give EVERYONE an EMH Mark I in their mailbox.
Also a free Khaless, Mirror Picard, and Merry Man Worf. That would be fair handed of DB.
I want my 15,000 honor back!!!
