As a companion to this: https://forum.disruptorbeam.com/stt/discussion/4331/spreadsheets-and-planning-the-real-stt#latest I am just curious how many of us do use spreadsheets.

Just kidding. But I think the art of planning and fiddling around with lists is a huge part of the game and it gives me as much satisfaction to adjust my spreadsheets as it does to play the game!

Need an option between "very occasionally" and "regularly" lol but I guess having to choose one or the other I'll say very occasionally

Allllll the time for my VIP0 account. I built a crew workbook to help me optimize my vaulting / playing strategy because slots are le limited.

I’ve been meaning to use them more often, to be honest.

But I find them very useful for keeping track of my crew, and it’s much simpler to send someone a link to my spreadsheet than it is to try to list them or take 23 different screenshots.
  • Eh, it's just a game, why would I use a work tool to help me play?
No, no need for spreadsheets. I'm familiar with my crew.

If there was a "sometimes", I'd take that. I usually bring up a spreadsheet or two when I get a behold, and while it's not a spreadsheet, I do use the Voyage calculator when I'm considering an extended run.

I'd expect that more forum users use spreadsheets than don't. I'd also expect that of the player base as a whole, spreadsheet users are a minority.

One thing that brings people to the forums is a desire to maximize their success in the game - they're looking for strategies and resources that the casual player doesn't care about. Using spreadsheets goes hand in hand with that.

I used to, but I know the lists so well by now that I rarely have to look at them.

I do love spreadsheets - you should see the ones I've created for choosing a car to buy or the one I’m working on for a family trip next month - but as I play exclusively on my phone and spreadsheets on such a small screen are inconvenient, I rarely use them.

I do love spreadsheets, but I don't use them for the game. I briefly did for a few things, like optimizing which cadet crew to ice down in cryo. But now, unless something wild happens all cadets (new ones because I have all of them at this point) go straight to cryo as who I hold isn't going to change. I briefly did a spreadsheet for gauntlet and voyages as well, but again once that crew was set (with a few to rotate in and out depending on traits needed) it wasn't going to change barring some new amazing crew that I can FF/FE, everyone else goes to airlock or cryo.

Sorry, but it’s not that serious.

For some reason I thought that read Hail To The Hammer...I swear I haven’t been listening to Týr all morning.

In order to play the game properly, I have 4 tabs open in at least 2 browser windows (preferably on 2 separate screens:
    1) My main spreadsheet, which in itself has 16 tabs
    2) My drop rates sheet, for recording results to contribute to Wiki
    3) The Wiki
    4) The Crew Cost website
I'm constantly switching between these 4 as I work through things. And I've got 2 others I use frequently: the shuttle drop result form I started (https://goo.gl/forms/2COCICaniC6lJLWA2), and the Voyage Data form.

I use them to optimize faction missions and to pre-farm for galaxy events. I also map out all my voyages so i can put together my voyages faster and determine which crew make the cut on a voyage and which crew get frozen. I also was using it to track 1, 2, 3 stars for completion until the collections showed up.

The spreadsheets are very helpful, especially with voyages and gauntlet selection.

I keep a checklist of all DS9 crew (just need Gabriel Bell and a bunch of 5*s), but it's just a screenshot of the wiki. Not sure if that counts though

I use the crew level 100 spreadsheet as guidance that's about it - does that count?

    I can't really get away with "What's a spreadsheet?" here, can I?

Okay, 'life' is probably a bit much, but I do like me a good spreadsheet!
  • All of the time
I use the crew spreadsheet by Captain Crunch to keep track of all my crew. I can't remember who I have in the freezer or who I removed for an event. That book helps immensely with that. I made a few adjustments to it to suit my needs. I use the Do Not Airlock checklist to help prioritize leveling and in conjunction with the Crew Cost website when posed with a difficult behold. I have also made my own spreadsheet for faction events to figure out optimal seating for my crew on shuttles. So I would say that is one of the things that I really like about this game is that it's really does come down to strategy and planning rather than just mindless button smashing even though it can seem like that sometimes. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who maintains and shares all of these awesome resources for the rest of us to use

I love spreadsheets, they can really help us organize things, though some of what I think, having two profiles would be really hard to implement...
  • Regularly
I use a copy of the airlock spreadsheet to help. I also have wiki tabs for the drop rates amd dilemmas always open
  • 4 fleet members and myself did for about 12 months but it turned into a chore.
After recording every event shuttle % and result during that time though did tell us shuttle events are not broken even though we still feel like they are sometimes.
  • Very occasionally
I started to build one, listing all crew, base skills etc, got half way through, then collections hit and up'd all my skills (which is good) but I could't face going back through every character to amend all of their stat.

Probably will go back to it at some poin

My crew spreadsheet is 10 pages printed. I print a new one once a month after I update it on the computer. I also made one a couple weeks ago for ships, since there are so dang many of those now.

The printed version gets scribbled on daily as I level crew, which also helps to figure out what to replicate the next day, which gets daily post-its.

Here is the master if you want to use it! I usually update it weekly online. ;)

I employ a spreadsheet which I use almost every day, but "to help me play" is not a completely accurate description of its usage. Mine is mostly to keep track of my crew roster — it contains every crew member I own, active and frozen, with columns for stars, level, stats, traits, etc. Whenever I level up a crew member I update its stats, and for any other status changes such as adding stars or sending to cryo.

I do occasionally use it to "help me play" when I employ the sort feature — to find crew with certain traits for events, for example.

At this point in my game play I don't feel the need to employ any of the other (very helpful) spreadsheets and spreadsheet templates that others have created here (which are are more for the purpose of "helping one play STT"), although I did use a number of them when I was still learning about many aspects of the game. These days I prefer flying by the seat of my pants. ;)

Could you please continue the petty bickering? I find it most intriguing.

I used to but I don't anymore. I do love tabulating lists but this game gets someone new every week and I am levelling crew so much during a week that it isn't worth the effort to keep updating the database.

Fun fact: The ships are propelled by bouncy castle technology.
  • Other option: i dont have to use spread sheet as i have memorized the list of my best crew for voyages and other in game aspects so spread sheets are not required (man i sounded a bit like a vulcan)

    What's a spreadsheet?
I picked this option because there isn't a "No." I used to use spreadsheets with avg rolls for expedition events, but since we haven't had a full one (5 missions) in months and most of my crew smash Epic missions, I haven't needed to use it
