Crew In Gauntlet Selection Appear To Be In Shadows

When selecting crew for the gauntlet, I have noticed that some of the crew seem to be in a shadow while others appear to be in bright light. The image below shows what I am describing:
Kahless, Guinan, and Picard appear to be shadowed, but Caretaker and Troi appear to be in bright light. Upon further investigation, I found that the shadowed crew were either on a voyage or a shuttle. Being a bridge crew does not affect the crew display in the gauntlet selection screen. Since crew can be used in gauntlet without affecting availability for voyages or shuttles (and vice versa), I do not understand why they should be shadowed in the gauntlet selection screen. Is this behavior intentional or accidental?
