Gold gauntlet rewards glitch?

Not sure if this is a glitch. This morning I opened up last nights gauntlet rewards. I was pleasantly surprised to receive two gold items. But to my surprise my characters needed neither of them :-(

It was a gold medical scanner and a gold uniform for APU, whom I don't have.

Is this a glitch or am I just very unlucky?

Not always the items received from the Gauntlet are needed by you for any specific crew member you currently own.
You have two choices from my point of view: wait to have that crew member and level it up to equip that item or use it a replicator fuel, because a Legendary equipement accounts for a good amount of fuel, but on this last case you can end up regretting it if you later need it.
