Redeeming those Super Rare items in Galaxy Event

GhostStalkerGhostStalker ✭✭✭✭✭
Hey Peeps,
I know there's probably an existing thread around here somewhere, but I never tried this before and I'd like help understanding it before the event starts...

Basically I'm led to believe that if you hold on to all of them until Phase 2, and then cash them all in, you end up with a few thousand more VP? Is this correct?

You can see cumulative VP for super rare rewards in each phase on the wiki.

I don't know where the old thread went, but it never reached a settled conclusion. You do get more per turn-in if you save for the second half. But if you're using the threshold rewards to fuse up and equip the event character, using those extra VP right away, you're getting more SR drops as a result. (Though obviously if you're building that threshold character it will cost chrons and gear, so *shrug*.)

Thank you! So I did some math, and since the groups are different, there's really no exact way to compare them at any one stage, but the answer is yes, it's better.

The closest number I can get to posits that you turn in 181 Super Rare items in phase 1 and get 55,549 points. Turning in 179 Super Rare items in phase 2 gets you 56,300 points. But it scales faster initially, so if you don't make it that high, you end up with more of the points up front.
  • Everything resets at the phase change. So if your rares were getting max points in phase one, they will start over at min points for phase 2. So it makes since to wait until after the reset and cash them in.
  • I have done the math consitering that in phase 1 it takes "fewer" to make each "set".. but each set is worth fewer VPs. the Main argument is the concept of "Ramping up" both in phase 1 and phase 2. But in honestly they figured a way to basically make them even...... there is a "small" advantage of a few thousand VPs if you wait till phase 2 to turn them in... but there is also a larger chance of having "ultra rares" left over, since at the high ranks it takes 15+ to make a set...

That being said, as you mentioned, consider the boost from turning in phase 1 to level the "Featured" crew, and give you higher percentages sooner, and thus get "more" ultra rares.

In my opinion, the "Best way" is to turn them in as you go during phase 1 IF you are trying to reach threshold rewards for leveling crew to get the best percentages... then STOP turning in ultra rares... and get the "small" advantage(every bit helps) for turning in the rest in phase 2

Oh I know, the debate here is between saving them all to cash in right when Phase 2 starts.
  • So the best way to play full galaxy event is to:
    1. Sit out first phase and let others (that have tons of resources) do the honor of unlocking the 2 event crews community reward. Your work here is to lv up the event crews.
    2. wait fo 2nd phase start and we do the work to unlock the last community reward (if not competed yet)
  • I was just of the opinion that if you cashed them all in right at the end then you are effectively masking your true rank which then prevents people seeing where you are and then crafting a few more items to jump you

Not the end, that would be silly. The START of phase 2.

See, usually I aim for 130k VP and stop. But I have a Valeris at 1/4. My goal is to make top 2500 so I can immortalize her by event's end. The most efficient way possible.

This is what I do. Works well.
It's also worth mentioning that since this is a Mega, turning in immediately gets you to your next Surak copy faster, giving you some more boost.

Part 2 doesn't work since community rewards are only during phase 1.

this is the part that just isn't true.. the "reset" isn't the same
in phase 2 you get more VPs per trade in .. and it "evens out"
example - if you earn 103 ultra rares(UR) in phase 1 and 106 in phase 2...
    turn in 103 phase 1 >> 29925 VP
turn in 104(2 left over) in phase 2 >> 28555 VP
    total 58480 VP

    turn in 209 in phase 2 >>> 60025

so the difference is 1545 if you wait...is this significant enough? if you turned in those 103 in phase 1, would you have boosted featured crew enough to get more URs so you could get even one more set trade in? if so... you would get MORE VPs than if you waited.

The "perceved" ramp up in for UR trade ins is a false perception due to the fact in phase 2 it takes more URs per set

Looking at the wiki it seems like there have been several phase II turn in charts.
Do we definitively know what's been in use the last several events?

there are "Standard" galaxy events with phase 1, phase 2... then hybrid, which only has one phase (usually phase 2, but i think a couple hybrid events have had galaxy phase 1) and then 3 events with special tables.. Contingency Plan, The Whole Truth, Orion Belt.

last time the "special" tables were used was "Orions Belt" October 2017

You could also get MORE rares if you upgraded your crew earlier.

I.E., you would get a few extra uses out of a 2/5 Surak instead of a 1/5 if you turned in rares earlier, giving you a few % higher on a handful of recipes.

I think the moral of the story is: don't split your turnins. If you're going to play phase 2, turn all of your rares in during phase 2. That way, you don't have to go through the "ramp up" twice.

If you aren't going to play any in phase 2 and just push to 130k, you might as well just turn in as you finish them. The difference in points just isn't that much.

After all of your information, I've decided that the best solution is to just acquire VP as fast as possible during phase 1. No waiting.

    Let the games begin!

All the tables are accurate I believe. The first table is the primary one used in Galaxy events these days and to my knowledge is accurate. The bottom one is for hybrid events which we'll have to check in 2 weeks but I also believe to be correct. The middle is what was used for a few specific Galaxy events early on and that probably still is correct for their re-runs but I'm not sure that's been/can be verified.

The hybrid event table was accurate last I checked.

I did the math once. It's a relatively small difference for the Super Rares (less than 2k VP or thereabouts), but if you do all of the regular builds in phase 2, you get an extra 5-6k VP. The problem is, the build difficulties may vary.

Also, phase 2 often has multiple factions, so you should have less than 3 rares left over in that case- just turn in whatever's above 3 but less than 15 to the second or third faction.

For a non-Mega, (or if the Galaxy event is the first in a Mega). Hand in rares until you get the four star (or Mega five star). Then level up the crew member until you hit personal gear being given away as rewards, then do the event, levelling as you go. After you have the 4*/5* save the rares until stage two.

  • Have the turn-in tables since changed?
It doesn't appear so from information on the wiki, but since we are now in phase 2 of the current event and the turn-ins have reset, they still follow the phase 1 list from above.
Since it's the first time i paid attention to the numbers, i might have missed it.
    Still i find it strange.

This is EXACTLY what I do. I score exactly 10 points in phase 1, just enough to qualify for the community rewards. I then use 2.5 days to level up the 1/4 copy of the event crew I "won" for "participating" in phase 1 slowly using as many ad warps as possible to hang on to max chrons, and then I pick a time and go to work during phase 2.

Not only is this way efficient, but it lets me decide if I want to go for rank or not without feeling like I have to to protect my phase 1 chroniton investment.

Looks like another bug. The Dominion turn-ins start at 735 like they should for phase 2 while the Sec 31 and Terran turn-ins both appear to still be using the start of 125 from phase 1.
  • I thought it looked odd. Since I held on to them all for phase 2, and I'm nor playing for rankn I think I'm okay. But it still **tsk tsk** to see a bug in an event style that's been around since nearly the beginning.

I got rid of this issue by just scrolling to the bottom of my crew list if I was in the middle of crafting when I got #15. Then I can finish the last recipe without collecting another SR.

Yes, the Dominion faction seems to have proper turn-in rate, but the others are set to phase 1 rates. I wonder how many VP you would lose?
  • Not that many. I've expanded the chart out. You can see it here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-FItPA8LF7xeRJao8srFq9o4wtNxaHj-DREkbXTqQqk

Say you had 500 SRs. Phase 1 would get you 157400 VP for 496 SR. In Phase 2, 494 SR would get you 158150 VP
