Science Officer T’Pol vs Festive Jadzia Dax...

PhdPhd ✭✭✭
Can Science Officer T’Pol replace Festive Jadzia Dax to pass all cadet missions, or is Dax still the better option?

Dax has more traits, but I like T'Pol better, so I went with her. YMMV

T'Pol ever so slightly edges Dax out with the stats, but Dax's traits (especially Gambler) meant I ended up keeping Dax in the end.

For me T'Pol wins. She has the Vulcan and Telepath traits which are used on some cadet nodes.

    My cadet crew are now:

T'Pol - Science and Diplomacy. (all days)
Sito - Command and Diplomacy. (all days)
Seska - Engineering (all days), Security (Thursday)

Nog - Security and Diplomacy (Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri).

Nog also has Gambler, Starfleet and Ferengi, so covers Dax's gambler trait for diplomacy

With starbase bonuses and traits, the three crew with diplomacy as a second stat cover diplomacy nodes, and if one is fatigued, then another can cover the node.
  • T'Pol has 800+ base science on this galaxy event, so I cyrod dax and use T'Pol. She can be used on shuttles this and next week too.

To which T'Pol are you referring?

If you completed all of the cadet challenges, it's just about who you like better.

For me Dax works better with traits combined with her secondary skill, diplomacy. T'Pol is too weak on her Dip, had her proficiency been better on the Dip (or more traits), she might have replaced Dax. But as it stands she's just too risky IMO.

I'm starting to experiment with crew for the weekday challenges since I have all the nodes completed finally. I'll repost my choices when I'm done.
  • Both Dax's and T'Pol's DIP are too weak to factor in; the only useful trait is their SCI for cadet missions. T'Pol's min is slightly higher than Dax's so I swapped.

Their DIP is the only thing that matters. Its assumed that any cadet with a 300+ of their main stat is useful so its a question of how good their other stats are.

In terms of DIP nodes only, both can be used for EASm3 or TUFm3 on epic. Neither can do EASm1/5 or TUFm1/5 (and you wouldn't anyways). T'Pol can do TUFm2 on Epic. Nobody in their right mind does ACF on epic so their DIP is good for there. T'Pol has a slight edge on one mission.

I kept Dax out of laziness. She does everything I need so I didn't bother changing. I almost never do TUFm2 although I might pay for that depending on my Star Empire Icon reserve.

    I've gone with T'Pol
    1. I like her character more and the artwork is good
    2. She does pretty much the same as Jadzia, the missions I play most are ones in which both of them don't really come out ahead of one another.

Now I'm just waiting for us to get a female Starfleet alien SEC main with strong COM second and one with MED main and some other skill second.

My current cadets are T'Pol, Seska, Sito, Crusher, and Yar.
T'Pol is great, she works all days and passes all SCI nodes, she also hits most DIP nodes.
Sito is great, she works all days and passes all COM nodes, she even hits some DIP if needed.
Seska is great, she works all days and passes all ENG nodes, her SEC is hit or miss though.
Crusher is alright, she only works on 4/5 days which is good but not the best, she has only one skill, but she does pass every MED node she's eligible for.
Yar is alright, she only works on 4/5 days, is only one skill, but does pass all SEC nodes she's eligible for.

I would rather have cadets who can do all 5 days though and pass most if not all of the nodes I put them against in their respective skills.

I may try this one, I don't run the epics on Thursday so this should cover everything nicely.
  • I went with T'Pol simply for crew slot allocation. I froze Dax so I could get room to Imm T'Pol. Due to collection and starbase bonuses neither one is "better" than the other for me.

    1. With decent starbase both can.
    2. Non-reward node anyway and Worf can ace finisher even with 1 failed node and without starbase.
    3. Kes-Seska/Wildman-Worf-Kes-Worf, you 100% need medic there as first node is reward one and most people keep Seska or Wildman anyway.
  • I would never drop Jadzia, not even for T'Pol. Just a personal choice.

I keep Sito, Festive Dax, Sec Chief Worf and CMO Beverly Crusher to cover Mon - Fri.

Lwaxanna, Selar and Money seem to cover the weekends.

I keep Kang and Undercover OBrien for the Arena so they muck in on occasions.

    So nine slots.

I used to keep Money too, but with Starbases, Ezri is more than ample and available for both days.

    So my Sat/Sun cadets are:
Lwaxana for DIP mostly but she can run the COM if needed
Ezri for the SEC and MED
Torres for ENG but her SEC comes in handy
    Saavik for COM and SCI

How are you getting by without any ENG?

Just fine. I may fail individual nodes but pass the overall mission.

Don't need it. The one with eng on Sunday I can fail one and pass.

I know its possible to strategize around it. I was really only looking at it on a trait+skill basis. The two crew are so similar its almost not worth thinking about it. Which is kind of a shame honestly. Probably would've been more interesting to make a T'Pol with SEC instead.

A 2-star T'Pol from back in her days with the Vulcan Ministry of Security with SEC would have been great (and made sense as she'd be considerably younger and therefore presumably less skilled than her older selves).

In terms of leveling ease, T'Pol's required Science Experiments at nearly every level are excessive.

I’ve done the same now, I levelled here reasonably easy, apart from Science Eperiments, but got lucky on Dabo for the 3* SE. I can always swap her back out at a later date, but I’ll run with her for a while.

The only issue I see there is that she would then only be eligible for Tuesday and Thursday cadet challenges. She would fill about the same role as 2* Major Kira.

Which might make her less useful. This way, although there are three science-primary Female, Starfleet Alien 2* crew, she can be on someone's roster if they prefer her over Pazlar and Jadzia. Which **tsk tsk** for me in part because she and Jadzia both make it onto my top 10 favorite characters in Trek.

I had been hoping for a Desert T'Pol from the Forge episodes. She could then reasonably have a primary skill other than science, and still maintain the Starfleet trait.
