Crew Voice Clips?

Was this game feature abandoned at some point? I remember talking to a DB rep about the clips at Star Trek Mission New York back in fall of 2016 and they mentioned the main difficulty was finding isolated clips without music or extra sound in the background. Which seemed a little bit odd, but I took them at their word.
I've actually just had my sound off completely for a while, but just turned it back on to see if any new clips had been introduced since then, or if new characters had audio, and it seems there haven't been. And those few characters that do have existing clips don't seem to have them associated with all versions. Was just curious if there had been an announcement regarding the clip development? I see people suggesting clips all the time.
The sound environment is something they seem to push as a selling point of the game - so much so that the game disrupts whatever podcast/music I'm listening to when I open the app, even when I have game sounds turned off - yet I don't notice the development. Thoughts? Updates?

No wonder most of us play on mute

But I don't work here, and the existing clips are mostly so annoyingly repetitive to me that I keep the sound off all the time anyway.
This exactly. A 'frequency' setting for how often the clips trigger would be excellent too.

It’s something we looked into, but it would require splitting out the different sounds/music into separate distinct tracks and then getting the game to recognize it. For whatever reasons, when the game was originally developed, it was configured for a single audio track.
So we recognize the quality of life value, but it not something that will appear in the game.
As for the OP’s question, audio clips are generally done on a case by case basis due to a variety of factors. Aside from the logistics, there’s also the fact that not every player appreciates them.
However, that doesn’t means there won’t be any more audio clips in the future, it just means we’ll be more judicious in when they’re incorporated.

I'm confused, was Star Trek Timelines not developed in-house at Disruptor Beam? Is DB only able to update story and character content, and minor UI updates? I'm not a programmer, so I don't quite understand the implications of it being "configured for a single audio track." Was this a third party game app template of some sort?
That said, I totally agree with being selective. It does get old, but Vreenak was perfect so it can be done. I would wager more iconic lines and less random lines would be better. Picard’s “Engage” always feels fitting to start a shuttle. Winn could say “Walk with the Prophets”, for instance, short and sweet and very her. Save one off jokes or long lines like Dax’s only for that specific variant (1701 in this case), exactly like Scarlet Worf. If only one Scotty had no bloody A’s or B’s it could still be cute/funny, but not on his normal/young versions where it doesn't even make sense.
I would even be so bold as to suggest only 5* characters have or be candidates for quotes, to make them feel more special. If the voice tracks affect the server that could help a lot, and make it so Janeway shuttle events feel less need to respond to threats.
Would love more clips that match the character version and the ability to set a frequency or maybe a certain clip only plays for specific nodes, like only if the character matches a node trait or something; or for activation of a ship ability etc.

This is all I'm ever going to here when I listen to that song now!

+1- I always wondered why there isn't adjust sliders in this game as with many others. The main reason I have my sound off is the 'rumbling' sound in the background, especially when your wearing headphones. Give you a headache after a while.
Another great feature would to be able to have the option to turn on/off some of the voice clip for each character. Scotty is still rambling on after I've made my choice, that bloody A, B, C, is just too long.
I am bummed about the new Q not having "You hit me!" or, and I love this, from "All Good Things" when Picard figures out he caused the anomaly and Q says "Congratulations."
They would make much more by charging to NOT have sound.
Except for Scotty. For the love of all that's holy either speed up that clip or get rid of it entirely...
Just because it was done in house doesn't mean that it was done by people that are still there. And even if they were, it sounds like a bad judgement call was made early on and that it would take a large effort to rectify it..
Since so many of us play with the sound off, I can see why it wouldn't be a priority.
Agreed. I deliberately never use Scotty for anything because of that.
On occasion I do turn the sound on on my phone, but not for this game - it's too annoying. The only game I really turn my sound on for is my Harry Potter game because it has soothing background music and isn't making beeps or voice lines at me on the constant like this game does. So the voice clips in this game, honestly hold no value for me.

I don't hear any voice clip either, and I mostly play with sound on.
Do you have one of the crew that has a sound clip such as Merry Men Worf, Rifle Janeway, Scotty, 2* Worf, Sniper Ezri, etc etc)? The voices play on my android phone, and with the large audience of iOS users I'm sure they play for them too.
I have Rifle Janeway, Sniper Ezri and 2* Worf for example, and nothing.
