If we choose to support the colonists, shouldn't we actually receive some tritanium, as is described in the dialogue?

"They offered us the first few kilograms of tritanium they have collected."

Or do we receive it directly, and I've just not noticed?

I think it's just flavor, like when a normal drop is accompanied by "they left a few items behind." You could get credits, honor, chrons, crew - none of which are items.
