Question on optimal equipping on Tuvix / Duras Sisters

I think I understand how the fusing of the Tuvix and Duras Sisters works, but I was unclear about what is the optimal way to fuse/merge them. My understanding is that when merged, they keep all their equipment. Given that, it seems the best way to merge them is to (for example), work a Tuvok up to a three star level 99 and merge with a one star Neelix. Then work a three star Neelix to level 99 and merge with a one star Tuvok. Then merge the two Tuvix's together. I don't think levelling and equipping would matter for the third Tuvix.

Am I understanding the advantages of equipment wrong? Am I better off just merging them at whatever level they happen to be at when I get the 3 star and 1 star ratio?

You only need to equip them once. So, in your example, after you "work a Tuvok up to a three star level 99 and merge with a one star Neelix", you do not need to (and shouldn't) equip any other items on either Neelix or Tuvok before you fuse them again.

But don't Tuvok and Neelix have different equipment? And if you keep all the equipment when merged would you in essence get double the equipment if you worked them both up to level 99? And I suppose triple equipped if you worked a Tuvix from level one to 99? Please tell me I'm wrong. That would be a hard grind, but triple equipment would be make them particular strong on ships and in gauntlet.

That's not how equipment works. When they fuse, all of the Neelix/Tuvok equipment is overwritten by the relevant Tuvix equipment.

Ideally, what you want to do is take a 3/3* Tuvok or Neelix to Lv99 and equip him. Then fuse a 1/3* Lv 1 of the opposite type into him, then you'll have a 1/4* Lv99 equipped Tuvix. Create three more Tuvix copies at Lv 1 by fusing more 3/3* and 1/3* units that are also Lv1, no need to equip or level. Then fuse the Lv 1 Tuvix copies into the Lv 99 version just like you would any other fusion.

Lursa Duras is easier to equip and thus level to 99. So would suggest leveling Lursa to L99.

Ok thanks. I was confused when the wiki said you keep all the equipment when merged, so I thought the best way to get all the equipment was to grind out both of them to 99.
