I sort of feel that's the kind of planet Rick and Morty might discover on one of their hair-raising adventures. Perhaps another cross-over with the Simpsons. It's pretty, but very, very weird.
I, for one, think it's very cool.
Well done DB for doing something purely for the art of it. It doesn't have to do anything or give us anything except its craftmanship, beauty and wonder.
I would love to be able to fly my ships around these planets...
Since DB's now adding non-ST (sponsored?) content into the game, I for one, vote that they partner with Bethesda next. I want to visit Nirn in my Borg Cube! the Borg must assimilate the ancient Dwemer tech! Q vs. the Divines vs. the Daedra! in a Mega-event Battle Royale! And that's not even considering Fallout with the Institute and the Brotherhood of Steel!!! Oooh-rah!!!
1) It's a homage to an artist who creates things that look like planets from glass (not STT related). There are more details linked back on page 1/2 of the thread.
2) The planet will be home to an upcoming (though still unreleased) Distress Call.
I don't get the hate towards the new planet. It's just an homage, folks. Also, it gives the game a little spark. You don't always have to GET something to approve of it.
For what it’s worth, I live close to Josh Simpson’s gallery and have visited it a few times. Great town, Shelburne Falls.
As soon a visited Infinity, I was like, “what’s with the paperweight?” 🙂
I went to Infinity and all I got was this stupid paperweight.
Just kidding. I love homages, especially when I get the reference (which I did not in this case). I also love glass art so visiting Josh Simpson's website was a pleasure.

Really, why?
Well, I used to think I'd never get enough trainers, too 🤣🤣🤣

That's a great comparison. I can see the crossover episode now...
"Opinion, Spock?"
"Fascinating... I've never seen any planet like it."
"Mr. Sulu, maximum magnification."
"Aye, Captain."

You ain't just whistlin' Dixie.
Could you please continue the petty bickering? I find it most intriguing.

Oh Data1001 you are such an arteeeeest
Are you helping DB with the Distress Calls? I really hope so.
Though realistically I don't fancy Kirk's chances against Rick

Perhaps we need a new ship to freshen up the arena we could have an Homage to Dr Who
Or maybe an Homage to an 80’s classic cartoon

Depends on the ccolour you like (green, ..ah no blue.... 😇)
I saw a sign for this the other day when I was in a taxi in Singapore:
African or European?

Oh, and I believe there will be more distress calls as more short films come out.
I starred it. I didn't want the Shan snip!
